Cole Palmer admitted it was "strange" to face former club Manchester City as he scored a penalty late on in West London.

The 21-year-old impressed once again for his new club and got himself on the scoresheet for the fourth time in the Premier League this season.

Palmer left his boyhood club in the summer and revealed it was bizarre to face his former team-mates in another shirt.

He said: "It was very strange, it's the first time I have played against City.

"I have the utmost respect for the club I spent 15 years at and it is nice to see some friends.

"We were unlucky to not get the win. I have many City fans I know but it is the game.

"It was amazing and I was excited before the game to show what I can do and we went behind a few times but bounced back."

There was a lot of pressure on the England Under-21 international before his penalty but Palmer admits he was confident as he stepped up.

He added: "It was a long time waiting but I felt confident and I have had a few now. I kept calm and focused.

"I am not going to say I work on them because I don't. I trust in my natural ability."

City thought they had won the match when Rodri's shot deflected off Thiago Silva and past Chelsea keeper Robert Sanchez with four minutes to go.

Erling Haaland's brace had put the visitors ahead on two occasions but Chelsea kept battling back through goals from Silva, Raheem Sterling and Nicolas Jackson.
