Lacasse claims record-breaking crowd spurred Gunners on to win

Cloe Lacasse claimed that the record-breaking Emirates crowd of 60,160 spurred Arsenal on to beat Manchester United 3-1 in the Women's Super League.

Lacasse's first-half strike, between an own goal from Geyse and a Kim Little penalty, was enough to dismantle a disappointing United.

The win was a big step for the Gunners as they aim to cement a Champions League spot and keeps the top two within touching distance. 

And the 30-year-old insisted the three points were inspired by an incredible turn-out, the highest in the division's history.

She said: "I think the atmosphere [helped us]. The supporters coming out for us like they did makes all the difference.

"Arsenal are massive, we're leading the charge in this. 

"It's not just today, we want to carry this going forward into the future and I think this is what the future holds for women's football."

Lacasse's all-important strike came when Katie Zelem's scooped clearance fell to her unmarked and she headed it into an open net.

The 30-year-old said: "It was more a reaction goal than anything. It came flying through and I was the lucky one to get my head onto it and get that goal.

"We knew we wanted to dominate physically, technically, emotionally. 

"We kept our heads and once we got the goal I think we carried the momentum forward."

And Lacasse insisted her side are not worried about results elsewhere in the race for the end-of-season honours.

She said: "Going forward we'll focus on ourselves, getting the three points. 

"We're in contention and we'll keep fighting to the end to get those points."
