The 2023-24 Premier League title race looks set to be an all-time classic with only a point separating three teams with 10 games left to play.

As Arsenal, Liverpool and Manchester City battle for the crown, we look at the competition's best title races in years gone by.

1997-98

Manchester United had won all but one Premier League title until Arsene Wenger disrupted Alex Ferguson's dominance.

The Red Devils had looked on course for a fifth title in six years at Christmas but Arsenal then clicked into gear, enjoying an 18-game unbeaten streak.

A 1-0 win at Old Trafford in March courtesy of Marc Overmars' effort was the key in earning the North London club their first ever Premier League title by just a single point.

2011-12

In the race which surely produced the most dramatic final day, City's bid to wrestle power from fierce foes United in 2011-12 had it all.

Ferguson's experienced troops had looked set to hold off new-look City's challenge for much of the campaign but a late-season dip — including a 1-0 defeat at the Etihad — handed Roberto Mancini's side the initiative again.

On the last day, the Italian's team just needed to beat QPR for the title but found themselves 2-1 down in second-half stoppage time, with United set to secure another title after doing their bit by winning 1-0 at Sunderland.

But City sensationally scored twice at the death through Edin Dzeko and Sergio Aguero, sparking scenes of adulation in East Manchester — and disbelief at the Stadium of Light.

2013-14

The 2013-14 season is perhaps remembered best for Liverpool's failed title challenge — involving Steven Gerrard's slip against Chelsea and their three-goal collapse at Crystal Palace.

But while it eventually became a two-horse race with City, it is often forgotten that Arsenal spent the majority of the campaign in top spot, with Jose Mourinho's Blues also in the mix.

Brendan Rodgers' Reds, spurred on by Luis Suarez and Daniel Sturridge, had a nine-point advantage over City at a late stage but that dramatic turn of events handed the Citizens their second title.

2015-16

The 2015-16 title race was a classic not for its tense battle between powerhouses but more for the surprise team who defied all the odds.

Leicester, in just their second campaign since promotion from the Championship, out-did closest rivals Tottenham to seal the unlikeliest of Premier League titles under Claudio Ranieri.

The way the Foxes sealed the title was filled with drama too, with Chelsea coming back from 2-0 down to deny Spurs in a feisty Stamford Bridge affair, handing the East Midlanders glory.

2018-19

Two of the greatest teams the Premier League has ever seen fought it out in 2018-19 as Pep Guardiola's City finished on a stunning 98 points, ahead of Jurgen Klopp's Liverpool on 97.

The Reds must have wondered how they did not win the title with such a total, especially when looking back on a 2-1 January defeat at the Etihad, which saw City defender John Stones clear the ball off the line by only 11 millimetres.

Guardiola's men eventually secured the title with a 4-1 win at Brighton on the final day, meaning that for all their extraordinary efforts, the Merseysiders' wait for a Premier League triumph went on.
