Chelsea and Manchester United have produced some classics over the years and the two are set to do battle once more on Saturday evening.

The top-four rivals are among the most successful clubs in Premier League history with 18 titles between them.

Ahead of the match at Stamford Bridge, we have picked a combined XI of players who have represented the powerhouses since the 1992 rebrand.

Goalkeeper: Peter Schmeichel (Manchester United)

The Danish stopper is a legend in Manchester and helped the red half win five league titles and one Champions League crown during his time at Old Trafford.

The club legend and 78-cap England international is a level above the likes of Ricardo Carvalho and Gary Cahill, who both miss out on this occasion.

Centre-back: Rio Ferdinand (Manchester United)

Rio Ferdinand just edges Nemanja Vidic for the second centre-back spot due to his longevity at the top level.

Ferdinand spent 12 years at the Red Devils and racked up over 450 appearances in the famous red shirt.

Left-back: Ashley Cole (Chelsea)

Many questioned Ashley Cole when he moved from Arsenal to Chelsea but the former England full-back created a legacy at Stamford Bridge.

He has close competition from Patrice Evra for his spot in this side but Cole's all-round game gives him the edge over the Frenchman.

Right wing: Cristiano Ronaldo (Manchester United)

A Premier League legend and all-time great, Cristiano Ronaldo will roll back the years to take on the role he played when he first arrived in England, marauding down the right wing in our line-up.

Former England skipper David Beckham will feel hard done by to be left out, but there are not many players who can argue against Ronaldo's remarkable record.

Centre midfield: Frank Lampard (Chelsea)

Frank Lampard is the Premier League's sixth-highest goalscorer, netting 177 times in the top flight during his illustrious career.

The middle of the park is a competitive place with Michael Ballack and Michael Essien both putting up strong cases, but Lampard's reign cannot be disputed.

Centre midfield: Paul Scholes (Manchester United)

Michael Carrick may think he deserves a shot, but the technical ability of Paul Scholes makes him a must-have in our combined XI.

He may have 70 fewer Premier League goals than Lampard but he remains among the most prolific midfielders in the competition's history.

Left wing: Eden Hazard (Chelsea)

He may not be setting the world on fire at Real Madrid but Eden Hazard was on another level at Chelsea.

He was a key player in the Blues' title triumph in 2016-17 and gets the nod on the left flank. 

Striker: Didier Drogba (Chelsea)

Didier Drogba's famous goal in the 2012 Champions League final will never be forgotten by the Chelsea faithful and it earns him a spot in our combined XI.

His contributions in the Premier League were important too — the Ivorian scored 104 goals and won 14 trophies in West London.

Striker: Wayne Rooney (Manchester United)

Rounding off our team is Wayne Rooney, who edges out Andrew Cole and Ruud van Nistelrooy. 

United and England's all-time top goalscorer, Rooney was a talisman for Ferguson and his eye for goal makes this a formidable XI.
