Champions League - Matchday Three predictions
- Barcelona host Bayern Munich among standout games
- Last year's finalists meet again as Real Madrid face Dortmund
- PSG entertain PSV Eindhoven
It is already Matchday Three in the Champions League and with another 18 games coming up on Tuesday and Wednesday, it is time to preview each clash, with a score prediction for every game.
AC Milan vs Club Brugge (Tuesday, 5.45pm)
AC Milan are in big need of a win over Club Brugge as the Italian giants have lost their first two in the revamped League phase.
Their Belgian opponents lost 3-0 to Borussia Dortmund first up before a 1-0 success at Sturm Graz followed but this is a much tougher test and a home win looks likely.
Score prediction: AC Milan 2-0 Club Brugge
Monaco vs Crvena zvezda (Tuesday, 5.45pm)
While both sides are doing well domestically — Monaco are second in Ligue 1, level on points with leaders PSG and Crvena zvezda are six points clear in Serbia — it has not been so plain sailing in Europe.
Monaco did shock Barcelona 2-1 in their opener before a disappointing draw with Dinamo Zagreb, while Crvena zvezda have lost to Benfica and, heavily, to Inter Milan, to suggest they may be out of their depth in the competition.
Score prediction: Monaco 3-1 Crvena zvezda
Arsenal vs Shakhtar Donetsk (Tuesday, 8pm)
Arsenal suffered their first defeat of the season when losing 2-0 at Bournemouth, albeit after key defender William Saliba was sent off.
The Gunners have drawn with Atalanta and impressively dispatched PSG 2-0 at home in the Champions League so far and they should be too good for a Shakhtar side that drew with Bologna first up before losing 3-0 to La Dea.
Score prediction: Arsenal 4-0 Shakhtar Donetsk
Aston Villa vs Bologna (Tuesday, 8pm)
Aston Villa have been fantastic again under Unai Emery, hammering Young Boys and then edging out German giants Bayern Munich.
They should have too much for Bologna, who have drawn one and lost one so far.
Score prediction: Aston Villa 2-0 Bologna
Girona vs Slovan Bratislava (Tuesday, 8pm)
Two teams who have lost both matches in the competition so far meet in Spain and this could be a tight clash without too much goal-mouth incident.
Score prediction: Girona 0-0 Slovan Bratislava
Juventus vs Stuttgart (Tuesday, 8pm)
Juventus have won both games so far and they can follow up their victories over PSV and Leipzig with another over Stuttgart, who have only managed a point from their first two outings.
Score prediction: Juventus 2-1 Stuttgart
Paris Saint-Germain vs PSV Eindhoven (Tuesday, 8pm)
PSG need to respond to their Matchday Two defeat at Arsenal and they should be able to edge out a PSV side that has lost at Juventus and drawn at home to Sporting.
Score prediction: Paris Saint-Germain 1-0 PSV Eindhoven
Real Madrid vs Borussia Dortmund (Tuesday, 8pm)
In a repeat of last season's final, Real will be hoping for another win over Dortmund, who have won both of their games in the revamped Champions League so far.
This could be a tight clash at the Bernabeu but Real can edge it to heap more Euro pain on BVB.
Score prediction: Real Madrid 2-1 Borussia Dortmund
Sturm Graz vs Sporting Lisbon (Tuesday, 8pm)
Sturm Graz have suffered defeats to Brest and Club Brugge, while Sporting are unbeaten, drawing with PSV after beating Lille.
An away win, then, looks to be on the cards.
Score prediction: Sturm Graz 0-2 Sporting Lisbon
Atalanta vs Celtic (Wednesday, 5.45pm)
Celtic were great when outclassing Slovan Bratislava 5-1 before being outclassed themselves when losing 7-1 at Dortmund.
This should give us a better idea how well equipped Brendan Rodgers' side are for this season's Champions League as they prepare to face an Atalanta side that has drawn with Arsenal and won well at Shakhtar Donetsk.
Score prediction: Atalanta 1-1 Celtic
Brest vs Bayer Leverkusen (Wednesday, 5.45pm)
Brest have made a storming start to their debut Champions League campaign, beating Sturm Graz and Salzburg and German champions Leverkusen will have to be wary ahead of their trip to France.
It may well be a tight tie but Leverkusen should edge it.
Score prediction: Brest 1-2 Bayer Leverkusen
Atletico Madrid vs Lille (Wednesday, 8pm)
Two sides who have won one, lost one meet at the Metropolitana and this looks a difficult tie to call.
Lille will be on a high after their shock win over holders Real Madrid on Matchday Two and they can follow up with a solid point against Los Blancos' neighbours.
Score prediction: Atletico Madrid 1-1 Lille
Barcelona vs Bayern Munich (Wednesday, 8pm)
In another of the huge Matchday Three clashes, Euro giants Barca host Bayern in another game that could conceivably go either way.
Barca were beaten by Monaco in their opener before bouncing back to hammer Young Boys, while Bayern were record 9-2 winners over Dinamo Zagreb first up before going down to a narrow defeat at Villa.
This could end up all square — a result Hansi Flick, who goes up against his former club, and opposite number Vincent Kompany would probably settle for.
Match prediction: Barcelona 2-2 Bayern Munich
Benfica vs Feyenoord (Wednesday, 8pm)
Benfica are on a six-game winning streak, a run that includes European victories over Crvena zvedza and Atletico, while Feyenoord lost heavily to Leverkusen before edging out Girona 3-2.
The Dutch outfit are likely to find it tough against the Portuguese giants and Benfica can pick up all three points in Lisbon.
Score prediction: Benfica 1-0 Feyenoord
Manchester City vs Sparta Prague (Wednesday, 8pm)
City secured a routine win over Slovan Bratislava after being held to a goalless draw by Inter Milan in their opener and now they should get another three points against a Sparta side who saw off Salzburg 3-0 before a draw with Stuttgart.
Score prediction: Manchester City 2-0 Sparta Prague
RB Leipzig vs Liverpool (Wednesday, 8pm)
Liverpool continue to impress under new boss Arne Slot and the Premier League leaders should maintain their great form with victory in Germany over Leipzig, who have so far lost an odd goal to Atletico Madrid and Juventus.
Score prediction: RB Leipzig 1-3 Liverpool
RB Salzburg vs Dinamo Zagreb (Wednesday, 8pm)
Salzburg have started with heavy defeats to Sparta Prague and Brest, while Dinamo have also struggled in the competition so far, going down to that embarrassing 9-2 defeat at Bayern before recording a 2-2 draw with Monaco.
This could be another tight tie and another draw may well play out.
Score prediction: RB Salzburg 1-1 Dinamo Zagreb
Young Boys vs Inter Milan (Wednesday, 8pm)
Young Boys have lost back-to-back to Villa and Barcelona without scoring, while Inter held City to a 0-0 draw before hammering Crvena zvezda 4-0 on Matchday Two.
There is surely only one outcome — a convincing away win — when the two sides meet in Bern.
Score prediction: Young Boys 0-3 Inter Milan.
