Carrie Jones is relishing the start of the Women's Super League campaign after joining newcomers Bristol City.

The Wales international, 20, parted company with title contenders Manchester United to sign a three-year deal with Lauren Smith's side.

And she cannot wait to tackle another season in the top flight following an impressive loan spell with Leicester last term.

The attacker said: "I'm really happy to be here and I can't wait to get started.

"It's exciting to be part of a team that's newly promoted, so it's a privilege to have signed.

"I've worked with Lauren previously when I was at Cardiff and having the chance to play for her again is a really exciting opportunity.

"I'm really grateful to know the head coach already because when you walk into a new team and a new environment it's very refreshing to have a friendly face.

"I'm very lucky to know a few of the girls as well having played alongside Ffion [Morgan], Ella [Powell] and Liv [Clark] with Wales. They've been really lovely and welcomed me into the group.

"I want to score goals and get assists but also help the team in any way I can.

"I like to brand myself as an attacking player but I take a lot of enjoyment from my defensive responsibilities, which will be important this season."

Jones graduated from United's academy before going on to make 10 first-team appearances in all competitions.

A statement from the Red Devils said: "Everyone at Manchester United wishes Carrie the best of luck in this next stage of her career."

Bristol City kick off their WSL season against Leicester at Ashton Gate on October 1.

They travel to Tottenham a week later before hosting Southampton in the group stage of the Conti Cup on October 11.
