Carabao Cup semi-final draw: Boro play Chelsea and Liverpool face Fulham
Middlesbrough are set to lock horns with Chelsea and Liverpool will tackle Fulham in the Carabao Cup semi-finals.
Boro, the only non-Premier League side remaining in the competition, will play the first leg of their last-four clash against the Blues at the Riverside Stadium before travelling to London for the reverse fixture.
And West London will also play host to the second leg of the other tie, with Anfield staging the first meeting between Fulham and Jurgen Klopp's men.
Boro have progressed this far without needing to beat top-tier opposition and booked their spot in the semis with a 3-0 victory at Port Vale on Tuesday.
Chelsea, meanwhile, dramatically saw off Newcastle on penalties after Mykhailo Mudryk netted a stoppage-time equaliser.
Liverpool thrashed West Ham 5-1 to advance on the road to Wembley and Fulham also triumphed on spot-kicks at Everton.
The draw potentially sets up the third meeting between the Reds and Chelsea in the League Cup final since the turn of the century, with the Blues victorious in 2005 under Jose Mourinho before the Merseysiders took their revenge in 2022.
Middlesbrough reached the final three times in eight seasons between 1997-2004, eventually lifting the trophy by beating Bolton at the Principality Stadium — known as the Millennium Stadium at the time — on the last of those appearances.
Fulham have never made it to the last two of this tournament.
The first legs will be played in the week commencing January 8 and the return fixtures in the week of January 22.
The final will be played at Wembley on Sunday, February 25, 2024.
