Bradford recorded a first win in seven league games as Calum Kavanagh’s goal secured a 1-0 victory against Swindon.

Kavanagh had scored twice at Stockport in the Vertu Trophy in midweek but this was his first in League Two this season.

After a quiet start to the game, Swindon’s Gavin Kilkenny forced home goalkeeper Sam Walker into a fine save from an inswinging free-kick.

But it was Bradford who took the lead after 24 minutes. Andy Cook pressed defender Tunmise Sobowale into a mistake on the edge of the penalty area and although Kavanagh’s first effort was saved by Dan Barden, the striker turned home the rebound.

It remained a low-key contest with few openings for either side. Bradford had most of the play but the final ball was lacking.

Bobby Pointon’s low cross ran across goal and beyond Kavanagh at the far post as the home side pushed for a second goal.

Swindon were fresh from back-to-back victories but never threatened an equaliser and remain third from bottom.
