Goals from Justin Kluivert and Antoine Semenyo secured a 2-0 victory for Bournemouth at Burnley.

The hosts enjoyed 75% of possession at Turf Moor but had nothing to show for their efforts as they edged closer to the drop.

Andoni Iraola's visitors have received rave reviews this season for their expansive style but playing a more conservative game in East Lancashire to bag the three points.

Without a league win since Boxing Day, Iraola will have been pleased by his side's clinical display.

The South Coast outfit are now 11 points clear of the drop zone and look to have secured their Premier League status for another year.

Justin time

Kluivert has shown glimpses of his talent since arriving at Bournemouth from Roma last June.

The 24-year-old forward netted his sixth goal in all competitions at Turf Moor, latching on to a ball over the top before dispatching past Clarets goalkeeper James Trafford.

Boss Iraola will hope to see more from the Ajax academy graduate between now and the end of the campaign.

Weak Claret

Burnley had 20 shots on goal and came close to breaking Bournemouth's defences moments before half-time.

Cherries goalkeeper Neto clawed off the line with the ball inches away from getting the Clarets back on level terms.

The also hosts had Josh Cullen's effort chalked off midway through the second half due to a foul in the build-up and had little reward for their efforts.

Vincent Kompany's men enjoyed a remarkable 75% possession — a club record in the Premier League — though they could not translate that into end product.

Midfielder Cullen said: "We can be pleased with a lot of the parts of our game but the overriding emotion is bitterly disappointed we haven't got anything to show for it.

"We won't stop fighting until the day is done and there are still enough points left to get us out of this situation."

Mind the gap

Burnley are now 11 points from safety and time is running out to mount a great escape with only 11 games remaining.

Their home form has been their undoing, taking only five points on their own patch, the worst record in the division.

Kompany takes his troops to West Ham next Sunday before a home clash with Brentford, with little hope the Lancastrians can deliver a first win since December 23.

Ant attack

Semenyo was on target in the reverse fixture at the Vitality Stadium and his deflected effort two minutes from the end rounded off a successful afternoon for the visitors.

The Ghana international also struck in the 2-2 draw at Newcastle last month and looks to have discovered some form in front of goal since returning from the Africa Cup of Nations.

Bournemouth secured the 24-year-old's services until 2027 when they prised him away from boyhood club Bristol City in January 2023 and will hope there is plenty more to come from the winger.
