Bruno Guimaraes enjoyed the midfield freedom he was afforded as his brace earned Newcastle a 3-2 win away at Nottingham Forest.

Guimaraes powered home a volley in the opening stages at the City Ground and the Brazil international then secured the win in the second half with a brilliant curling effort.

The 26-year-old was deployed in a more offensive position by Magpies boss Eddie Howe, with Sean Longstaff and teenage sensation Lewis Miley occupying the deeper midfield roles.

And Guimaraes spoke on how much he enjoyed the change when analysing his first goal after the game.

He said: "It was a lovely goal. One of the most beautiful in my career.

"When I play as a six, I don't get the chance to play forward as much so I enjoyed playing high.

"I think I can play six, eight and 10. I played very well with the two goals. Thank you gaffer.

"To be honest with you, when I saw the ball come I didn't know whether to hit it with my left or right but it was a perfection finish."

After a dramatic 4-4 draw against Luton last time out, a victory at the City Ground will give Newcastle a huge boost ahead of a crucial period in the season.

The Magpies are now up to seventh in the Premier League and Guimaraes outlined his side's intentions to play European football for the second consecutive campaign.

He added: "We have to get Europe again. Try for Champions League, I know it's difficult but definitely for Europa League.

"We have been better away from home this season. We have a big game at home next week and hopefully we can get the three points.

"I enjoy my time here. The fans have been unbelievable for me and my family.

"I hope this can keep going for a long time."
