Brentford to win

Newcastle put a dent in Liverpool’s title charge on Wednesday as they held the runaway leaders to a 3-3 draw at St James’ Park but they may struggle to back that up with another result at Brentford at the weekend.

These two sides are locked on 20 points and the Bees’ strong start to the season is due to their impressive home form.

Brentford have the best home record in the division, with six wins in seven league games at the Gtech Community Stadium and they are unbeaten at this venue across all competitions.

Team news

Thomas Frank's Brentford have been close to perfect at home this season.
Thomas Frank's Brentford have been close to perfect at home this season.

Josh Dasilva, Rico Henry and Aaron Hickey are the only definite absentees for Brentford but boss Thomas Frank could be without a few more.

Mathias Jensen and Christian Norgaard missed the midweek defeat at Aston Villa with minor issues and it remains unclear if they will be back in the mix for Saturday, while Kristoffer Ajer and Gustavo Nunes are also rated as doubts.

Sven Botman, Jamaal Lascelles and Emil Krafth remain unavailable for the Magpies. Kieran Trippier missed the draw with Liverpool due to illness and is therefore a doubt for Saturday’s fixture.

The stats

Brentford have won seven of their nine home games in all competitions, drawing the other two.

Both teams have scored in 12 of Brentford’s 14 Premier League games.

Newcastle have just two wins in seven attempts on their travels in the Premier League.

Both teams have scored in four of Newcastle’s last six games.

Prediction

Newcastle picked up a huge result on Wednesday as they ended Liverpool’s seven-game winning run, thanks to a late leveller from Fabian Schar after they had allowed a 2-1 lead to slip away.

However, Eddie Howe’s men are now winless in three games and getting a result at Brentford this weekend looks a big ask.

The Bees have been close to perfect at home this term with six wins and one draw after seven league games. Newcastle did win at this ground in the final round of fixtures last season but that is Brentford’s only home loss since February, and they can avenge that defeat in this latest meeting.

Newcastle have lost two of their seven away games and both of those defeats have come in trips to London, with their solitary point in the capital coming at Crystal Palace in a game they were perhaps fortunate not to lose.

A home win looks the standout bet, and if you are tempted to be a little bolder backing Brentford to win and both teams to score at 7/2 with LiveScore Bet is an option as Frank’s troops are yet to keep a clean sheet at home this season in any competition despite their impressive results.
