Brighton have confirmed the signing of James Milner on a free transfer.

Milner, 37, will join the Seagulls on a one-year deal — with the option of a further 12 months — when his Liverpool contract expires on June 30.

Boss Roberto De Zerbi said: "I'm very glad to welcome James to Brighton.

"He's an excellent addition for us and I'm sure he will help to bring us to an even higher level."

Brighton's technical director David Weir added: "We are delighted James has agreed to join us after a hugely successful period at Liverpool.

"His experience speaks for itself with the amount of games he has played and the trophies he has won throughout a decorated career.

"These games include European competition, which will be of huge value to us as we embark on our first season in Europe.

"We're looking forward to working with James when the players return for pre-season."

The move brings an end to eight successful seasons for Milner at Anfield, where he won seven trophies, including the Premier League, Champions League, FA Cup and Carabao Cup.

He played 332 games for the Reds after joining from Manchester City in 2015, scoring 26 goals.

Brighton will be the sixth Premier League club of the Englishman's career and he will give the South Coast outfit some crucial continental experience ahead of their first Europa League campaign in 2023-24.

Milner will also get the chance to play alongside ex-Liverpool team-mate Adam Lallana, 35, at the Amex Stadium next season.
