Eight different Magpies got their names on the scoresheet at Bramall Lane as Eddie Howe's men showed their sharp edge in the Steel City.

In the wake of the Blades' historic pasting, we take a look at the biggest defeats in Premier League history.

Manchester United 9-0 Ipswich (March 4, 1995)

Manchester United were the first team to record a nine-goal victory in Premier League history.

The game will be best remembered for Andy Cole ploughing through the Tractor Boys' defence and scoring five times.

Old Trafford midfield legends Roy Keane and Paul Ince also struck, while Welsh wizard Mark Hughes got a brace.

Ipswich ended up getting relegated but did win the reverse fixture at Portman Road — a significant result as United finished just a point behind an Alan Shearer-inspired Blackburn to miss out on the title.

Southampton 0-9 Leicester (October 25, 2019)

Southampton are the only team to be on the receiving end of two 9-0 thrashings in the Premier League.

Ben Chilwell and Youri Tielemans struck early before an Ayoze Perez double and Jamie Vardy effort made it 5-0 at the break.

Saints fans were left praying for mercy but Leicester took no heed as both Vardy and Perez completed hat-tricks and James Maddison got one for himself.

Vardy's 94th-minute penalty tied United's record scoreline and earned the English forward a four-goal haul.

Manchester United 9-0 Southampton (February 2, 2021)

United's reputation as England's finest flat-track bullies was confirmed by another nine-goal thrashing.

Just a season after being mauled by the Foxes, Saints once again fell prey to hungrier opposition.

Incredibly, Anthony Martial was the only player to score more than once as United shared the wealth with Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Marcus Rashford, Edinson Cavani, Scott McTominay, Bruno Fernandes and Daniel James all among the goals.

Jan Bednarek's own goal capped a miserable day for the Saints' defence as away supporters marched out of Old Trafford with their heads in their hands.

Liverpool 9-0 Bournemouth (August 27, 2022)

In another humbling day for the South Coast, Liverpool showed no signs of the struggles which would later derail their 2022-23 campaign with a resounding win.

Picked apart from the off, the Cherries were two goals down after six minutes thanks to strikes from Luis Diaz and Harvey Elliott.

Trent Alexander-Arnold, Virgil van Dijk and Fabio Carvalho all got one for the Reds, Roberto Firmino bagged a brace and Chris Mepham fired into his own goal to, presumably, leave the visiting supporters wishing they had not made the trip to Anfield.
