Aston Villa vs Bologna predictions: Villa can continue perfect start
- Aston Villa have yet to concede in the Champions League this season
- Bologna have only won one game this season in 10 games
- Recommended bet: Aston Villa to win to nil
Aston Villa have enjoyed the perfect start to their first season in the Champions League and are firm favourites to land a third win of their European campaign against Bologna on Tuesday night.
Villa hit the ground running with an impressive 3-0 win over Young Boys in Bern, before a night to remember at Villa Park as they savoured a 1-0 victory over Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich.
Unai Emery’s men have also been going well in the Premier League and earned a 3-1 win at Fulham on Saturday before now switching focus back to Champions League matters.
Tuesday’s opponents Bologna have endured a torrid start to the season and have yet to pick up a win in the Champions League after a goalless draw at home to Shakhtar Donetsk was followed by a 2-0 defeat at Liverpool.
Things will not get any easier for the Serie A outfit at Villa Park and it is hard to see Bologna leaving the West Midlands with anything to show for their efforts.
Team news
There were no fresh injury concerns for Aston Villa following their impressive win at Craven Cottage last time out.
Tyrone Mings could be set for a return to the matchday squad for the Villans after a lengthy absence, while John McGinn and Boubacar Kamara have both recovered from their recent injuries and were on the bench at the weekend.
Keeper Robin Olsen is still suffering with a head injury and is not expected back until early next month.
As for the visitors, Samuel Iling-Junior (knee), Martin Erlic (hamstring), Michael Aebischer (muscle) and Lewis Ferguson (ACL) are all set to miss the trip to England due to injury.
Midfielder Oussama El Azzouzi and forward Dan Ndoye have both had recent knocks but could feature against the Villans.
The stats
Aston Villa are one of six teams remaining in the Champions League who have not conceded a goal after the first two rounds of fixtures.
Villa have conceded just one goal in their last three games, while they are unbeaten in their last nine matches in all competitions.
Bologna have managed just one win in 10 games in all competitions this season and that was against winless Monza.
The Serie A outfit have kept just two clean sheets this season – against Shakhtar Donetsk and Parma.
Prediction
With two clean sheets in their last three games, Villa have been proving a tough nut to crack of late and Emery’s side look capable of winning to nil on Tuesday.
Bologna have failed to score in two of their last three games and they do not look like they have the necessary firepower to find a way past Villa on their own patch.
