Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta was 'so proud' of his Arsenal players after they beat Manchester City 1-0.

As the game looked to be heading for a goalless draw, substitute Gabriel Martinelli scored a late winner for the Gunners.

It was the first time that Arsenal have beaten City in the Premier League since January 2015 and Arteta was delighted with his side's efforts.

He said: "So proud. It was the moment with the right people and the right players.

"We knew we would have to suffer and we did that. You need a big performance and the crowd, too. It feels like a big win.

"I think the way we started we conceded the corner and then we gained some control and in the second half we started really good. We were there and really aggressive."

The Spaniard also singled out David Raya's performance.

The 28-year-old goalkeeper made a nervous start to the game and appeared uncomfortable with the ball at his feet but Arteta was full of praise for his performance.

The Spaniard said: "I think he was excellent.

"He can miss one or two passes and I demand him to stop the ball when he needs to, to get clarity, to get understanding, to provoke the opponent.

"But then, overall, the way he controlled the ball, how dominant he was, how high he played. I think he was excellent. I love players with big courage and David has big ones."

Arsenal will look to build on this momentum when they face London rivals Chelsea after the international break.
