Arsenal get Timber for the rebuild as Jurrien signs from Ajax
Arsenal have completed the signing of Ajax defender Jurrien Timber.
The talented 22-year-old becomes the Gunners' second major acquisition this summer following the arrival of Kai Havertz from Chelsea.
Manager Mikel Arteta said: "We're really excited that Jurrien has joined us.
"He is a versatile young defender, who will fit into our system and provide our squad with so much added quality.
"Jurrien is a young player but has already achieved so much.
"He has experienced what it's like to go to a major international tournament on more than one occasion, as well as the trophies he has won with Ajax.
"We look forward to welcoming and integrating Jurrien into the squad.”
Timber spent nine years at Ajax after joining the Dutch giants at youth level from arch-rivals Feyenoord in 2014.
His switch to North London will feel particularly special after revealing his love for the Gunners from a young age.
In his first interview as an Arsenal player, Timber said: "I've always been a fan of Arsenal.
"It was because of my brothers. They were always Arsenal fans and I just loved seeing Arsenal play. They had big players, the way they played, the style. I just love the club.
"I had this from a young age but my brothers kind of put that in me. I liked watching Robin van Persie of course, and Thierry Henry. They were my favourite players."
Netherlands international Timber played 121 games in total for Ajax, winning three trophies.
He was also named the Eredivisie Player of the Year in 2021-22 as the Amsterdam outfit won their 36th league title.
Timber was linked with a switch to Manchester United last summer but has decided to make the move to the Emirates, reportedly signing a contract until 2028.
His ability to play as a centre-back or right-back will add some much-needed depth to the Arsenal squad ahead of their return to the Champions League.
After finally sealing the deal for Timber, West Ham captain Declan Rice is expected to be Arsenal's next arrival as Arteta continues to bolster his squad.
