Alessia Russo thanked Arsenal supporters for helping Jonas Eidevall's side overcome Tottenham at the Emirates.

England forward Russo struck the decisive blow in a 1-0 victory for the Gunners in front of another sold-out crowd.

The hosts moved to within three points of Women's Super League leaders Manchester City thanks to the win and Russo was pleased to grind out the three points.

She told the BBC: "Spurs are a top side and they play some really good football.

"We knew it was going to be tough and off the back of the international break we had to get to work quickly.

"We wanted to come out and put a performance everyone was proud of especially here at the Emirates.

"I love playing here. The fans, the whole atmosphere is incredible and us as players can feel them from the first minute to the last.

"We needed them today at points and they always come through and it's great to play here."

Arsenal are back in action on Wednesday night when they face Aston Villa in the Conti Cup semi-finals before a huge WSL clash with fellow title contenders Chelsea.

And skipper Kim Little wants her colleagues to up their game with big tests on the horizon.

The 33-year-old midfielder said: "I think the three points are the most important thing but we weren't at our best.

"If we want to win the league we have to take our chances.

"They were in the low block a lot, we struggled to break through. I thought we did it fairly well to get through.

"If we do what we can, we can get into a final and then maybe go level on points. We need to turn up in those big games."
