Accrington hold Walsall thanks to rare clean sheet
League Two top scorers Walsall could not find a way past Accrington in a goalless draw at the Wham Stadium.
The Saddlers remain in second spot while Stanley celebrated only a second clean sheet of the campaign.
Walsall started strongly and Liam Gordon fired a great chance wide in the opening minutes.
Taylor Allen and Jamie Jellis both tested home keeper Billy Crellin while, at the other end, Farrend Rawson headed a Donald Love corner wide.
The game burst to life after the break. Stanley came close on 51 minutes when Manchester United loan defender Sonny Aljofree got the ball in the six-yard box but Saddlers keeper Tommy Simkin stuck out a leg to deny him a first league goal.
Three minutes later the Saddlers saw a Jellis free-kick superbly pushed out by Crellin and top scorer Nathan Lowe headed over the rebound.
The game opened up with Dara Costelloe clipping an effort wide and Jellis chipping just over.
Stoke loan striker Lowe could have won it for the visitors on 81 minutes when he was clean through but Crellin superbly denied him.
