Nottingham Forest to win

Nuno Espirito Santo takes his Nottingham Forest side to Molineux to face his former club Wolves in the Premier League on Monday.

Forest’s turn around in fortunes is arguably the story of the season so far. Having finished just one place outside of the relegation zone last season, Nuno’s squad have now got their sights set on European qualification.

In contrast, Wolves look to be in a relegation battle but their new coach, Vitor Pereira, has given them an uplift in the last month.

Team news

A big blow for Wolves is the absence of star man Matheus Cunha, who was handed a two-match ban following an incident at the end of their defeat to Ipswich.

The Brazilian has 10 goals to his name this season, but Wolves will also miss his ability to create chances for others.

Pereira has a lengthy injury list to contend with as well, with the likes of Mario Lemina, Pablo Sarabia, Toti Gomes and Boubacar Traore all sidelined.

There is more positive news for Forest, with Murillo and Callum Hudson-Odoi expected to be fit to feature at Molineux.

If the duo pass their late checks, then it looks like Nuno will have a near fully fit squad to select from.

The stats

Wolves are unbeaten in their last three games since the arrival of Pereira, but both wins came against teams in the bottom half.

Matheus Cunha has scored three of Wolves’ last four goals against Forest.

Nottingham Forest have not conceded a goal in their last three league games.

The visitors have won their last three away matches and have only lost on the road to Arsenal and Manchester City.

Chris Wood has 11 goals to his name this season, with six of those coming in away games.

Prediction

Nottingham Forest have shown in recent weeks that they are not a flash in the pan, with five wins on the spin moving them up to third in the table.

Even when they collected a 1-0 win at Liverpool in September, it was suggested that Forest would only play counter-attack football and struggle to break down teams with a deep block.

However, that theory has been put to rest in recent weeks, as they ended Brentford’s unbeaten home run and then beat an Everton team that had conceded just one goal in their previous four games.

Although Wolves have shown a real improvement under their new manager, this looks like a real step up in opposition, with the added subplot of Nuno’s return to Molineux.

Cunha’s absence is a big setback and Forest should have too much for a team that holds the joint-worst defensive record in the league, leaking 42 goals in 19 games.
