Andy Murray gets his first Wimbledon singles campaign since 2017 started today

Our daily Wimbledon round-up will bring you all the latest news from SW19 as tennis fans feast on two weeks of grass court action and pray for sunshine.

Murray wins after tense finish

Andy Murray made a winning return in his first singles match at Wimbledon for four years.

The two-time Wimbledon champion won the first two sets 6-4, 6-3 and looked set to beat No24 seed Nikoloz Basilashvili in straight sets after going 5-0 up in the third.

But it wouldn’t be Wimbledon without a slice of drama as Basilashvili clawed the third set back to win 7-5.

However, Murray stayed strong and won the fourth set 6-3 to advance to the second round where Germany's Oscar Otte or France's Arthur Rinderknech await.

Tsitsipas stunned by unseeded Tiafoe

Day one in SW19 did not disappoint with world No4 Stefanos Tsitsipas suffering a straight-sets defeat against the unseeded Frances Tiafoe.

American Tiafoe overcame Tsitsipas 6-4, 6-4, 6-3 to dump the third seed out in emphatic fashion on Court One.

It is the third time in four attempts that Tsitsipas, who reached the French Open final earlier this month, has been knocked out of Wimbledon in the first round.

Tiafoe's reward will be a second-round tie against Canadian Vasek Pospisil or Spain's Roberto Carballes Baena.

Djokovic sees off plucky Draper

British teenager Jack Draper was unable to build on winning the first set as Novak Djokovic eventually saw off the battling debutant on Centre Court.

Left-handed Draper, 19, stunned the Serb to take the first set 6-4 but that only brought the world No1 to life.

He went on to win the next set 6-1 before dropping just two games in the third and fourth as he booked his spot in the second round.

Sabalenka starts with a win

Aryna Sabalenka marked Wimbledon’s return by cruising past Romania’s Monica Niculescu in the first game back in SW19.

After rain delayed the start of play on the outside courts, the women's second seed was in a ruthless mood as she took the first set 6-1.

Niculescu showed more fight in the second but was still no match for the World No4, who took it 6-4.

Sabalenka, 23, will face Britain’s Katie Boulter in the second round.

British men in action

Three other British men were in action today.

Jay Clarke, 22, will resume his tie with Belarus’ Egor Gerasimov on Tuesday after bad light saw play suspended with the Brit trailing 6-3, 3-6, 7-6.

British No1 Dan Evans will hope to put together another run in SW19

Liam Broady ended his six-year wait for another victory at SW19 by beating Marco Cecchinato in straight sets, 6-3, 6-4, 6-0.

British No1 and 22 seed Dan Evans will have to wait a day longer to kick off his first Grand Slam as a seeded player against tricky Spaniard Feliciano Lopez after the lunchtime rain saw his game put back to Tuesday.

British women in action

Three of Britain's hopes in the women's draw have already seen their dreams of a Grand Slam run come to an end.

Katie Swan could not continue her good form from last week's qualifiers as she lost 6-3, 6-4 to No23 seed Madison Keys on Court 3.

Wildcard Jodie Burrage's Grand Slam against another American in Lauren Davis was also short-lived. It took Davis just 55 minutes to see off Burrage 6-2, 6-1.

Katie Boulter marked her return to Wimbledon after three years of injury frustration by beating American qualifier Danielle Lao 6-7 6-3 6-4.

Heather Watson brought day one to a close, going down 2-1 against Kristie Ahn who triumphed 2-6, 7-6, 8-6.

Harriet Dart, 24, was meant to be the final Brit in action but her clash with No13 seed Elise Mertens was also delayed until tomorrow.
