Manchester City's bid to remain perfect in the Premier League takes them to London to face a West Ham side aiming to continue their exceptional start to the campaign.

Saturday afternoon's clash between these two in-form sides will see the return of Pep Guardiola to the dugout after the City boss underwent a back operation last month.

The table-topping Citizens barely blinked without their figurehead's presence on the sidelines, beating Sheffield United and Fulham in his absence.

West Ham, who start the day in fourth place, have won three on the bounce, although they were made to sweat for the three points by Luton last time out.

Team news

Manager David Moyes revealed some of the Hammers' returning international players sustained knocks, but did not go into details, which suggests there could be one or two changes to his line-up.

Vladimir Coufal reportedly picked up a slight injury for the Czech national team against Albania and could be replaced by Thilo Kehrer at right-back if that is confirmed.

Mohammed Kudus is pushing for his first start since arriving from Ajax, although he may have to settle for an extended outing off the bench.

As for City, Guardiola revealed that Jack Grealish (thigh), John Stones and Mateo Kovacic (both muscular) will all sit out the game at the London Stadium on Saturday.

Stones has been absent since the Community Shield defeat to Arsenal, while Grealish missed the recent England internationals.

Kovacic did not play in either of Croatia's recent matches, but has featured in all four Premier League games prior to the international break.

Kevin De Bruyne remains sidelined for the time being with a long-term hamstring injury.

The stats

Three consecutive wins since their opening-day draw at Bournemouth represents West Ham's joint-best points return (10) from their opening four games of a Premier League season.

If David Moyes' side come out on top this weekend, they would make it four league wins in a row for the first time since November 2021.

However, the Hammers have lost nine of their last 10 matches against the Premier League's reigning champions and have conceded at least two goals in nine of those.

The Citizens, on the other hand, are unbeaten in their last eight Premier League away trips to West Ham, last tasting defeat at the Boleyn Ground in October 2014.

Prediction

The Citizens have found their relentless mode early on this season, with the only moment that anyone doubted they would win coming when Sheffield United levelled with five minutes to go.

City remained composed and just stepped it up enough to find the winner at Bramall Lane to send an important message to any rivals with designs of knocking them off their perch.

The Hammers could hardly be in better shape to face them, however, after recording three straight Premier League wins.

Moyes' men are likely to play just as they did in last month's 3-1 win at Brighton when they sat deep, forcing their opponents out wide before hitting them on the counter attack.

It has been an effective tactic for them this term, although one consequence of pushing the opposition into wide areas has been a higher number of corners conceded.

No Premier League team has faced more corners than the Hammers (45) and that trend of conceding them in high numbers should continue when they face the strongest possession-based side in the country.
