Arsenal are in discussions with Ollie Watkins' agent over a potential January move.

Sporting director Edu has instigated the discussions with the striker's representatives and is keen to do a deal, according to FootballTransfers.

Chelsea are also interested in the Aston Villa hitman, who scored his first Premier League goal of the season in his side's 1-0 victory at Stamford Bridge on Sunday.

Securing Watkins in January is said to be challenging but not impossible as discussions over a new contract at Villa Park have been ongoing for over a year.

The England international is reportedly keen on a five-year contract worth over £150,000 per week.

Both the Gunners and the Blues are also said to be interested in Brentford striker Ivan Toney, whose eight-month ban from professional football will end in January.

But Watkins, who will have games under his belt, is understood to be their first choice.

Chelsea have scored just five goals in six league games this season while Arsenal's forward options have been criticised after they missed big chances in Sunday's 2-2 draw with Tottenham.
