Ange Postecoglou says Tottenham's players want to "change the destiny" of the club after climbing to the top of the Premier League with a hard-fought win over Luton.

Micky van de Ven scored the only goal of the game in the second half after Spurs recovered from Yves Bissouma's red card to claim all three points at Kenilworth Road.

The unbeaten North Londoners sit top on 20 points with eight wins and two draws, leapfrogging Arsenal and Manchester City who face off on Sunday.

After the narrow victory, the Australian coach, 58, told TNT Sports: "I thought we started so well.

"We probably should have been three or four up but then you get the red card and it's a different type of game.

"I just thought we handled it really well. They had a couple of opportunities, we had a few of our own and we've picked up three points at a difficult place."

Spirits are finally high again at Spurs after a chaotic 2022-23 season overseen predominantly by Antonio Conte and caretaker Ryan Mason.

Asked what he has changed since his arrival, Postecoglou said: "I don't think it's fair to look back.

"All I can do is work with what we have at the moment and, I keep saying, it's a credit to the players. They've really bought into it.

"They're really tight as a group. You see that in the manner of how we're winning games. It's not like it's been easy in any of them.

"Apart from the football, which I think has been good, they've shown real resilience and character.

"They want to change the destiny of this football club and that's what they're trying to do."

The victory in Bedfordshire means Spurs have collected their best ever Premier League points return after 10 games and their most overall since 1960.

But reflecting on their stunning start, a typically understated Postecoglou said: "It's going alright, it's going alright.

"But we're only in October and we've still got a lot of work to do."
