Sergio Ramos has returned to boyhood club Sevilla on a free transfer after leaving Paris Saint-Germain at the end of his contract.

The Spain legend, 37, was heavily linked with a switch to Saudi side Al-Ittihad but will now ply his trade in LaLiga once more after penning a one-year deal.

After his second spell with the Andalusian club was announced, he said: "Today is a very special day for me.

"I'm finally coming home and I'm looking forward to the moment when I can feel the Sevilla shirt and have this crest on my chest again.

"I believe it was not only a debt I owed to myself but also to my family. To my grandfather, who made me a Sevillista when I was young, and [to] my father."

Ramos joined Sevilla's academy in 1996 and progressed through the club's youth system, eventually making his senior debut in February 2004.

The 2010 World Cup winner was then a first-team regular for Los Rojiblancos throughout the 2004-05 campaign, which prompted Real Madrid to swoop in and sign him for around £25million.

Ramos played 671 games for Los Blancos across a 16-year spell, scoring 101 goals, winning four Champions League titles and establishing himself as one of the club's greatest ever defenders.

He spent the last two seasons at PSG, where he played alongside former LaLiga rival Lionel Messi and lifted two Ligue 1 trophies.

Overall, Ramos made 58 appearances for the Parisians, scoring six times.

Sevilla have lost all of their opening three games of the LaLiga season but will hope to climb their way up the table when they return to action after the international break against Las Palmas on September 17.
