Salford climb into League Two play-off places after victory over Morecambe
Salford climbed into the Sky Bet League Two play-off places as a 1-0 win over Morecambe secured a fourth consecutive victory.
A header from half-time substitute Matty Lund proved the only difference between the sides, with the midfielder netting just a few minutes after coming on.
Salford generated the better chances in a scrappy first half, with Morecambe goalkeeper Harry Burgoyne first claiming Hakeeb Adelakun’s deflected shot before getting down excellently to keep Ryan Watson’s goal-bound header out.
Karl Robinson shuffled his pack at the break with Lund entering the field and it proved to be an inspired change as he headed in from Jon Taylor’s cross in the 47th minute.
The hosts continued to look the more dangerous side in the second half, with Yann Songo’o producing a brilliant goal-line block to deny Conor McAleny’s powerful volley.
Kylian Kouassi then headed home from a corner, but the goal was ruled out for a foul.
Morecambe almost snatched a 90th-minute equaliser, but Gwion Edwards blazed his effort across the face of goal.
