LiveScore Racing Preview: Goodwood, August 29, 2021
Goodwood's three-day August Bank Holiday meeting concludes on Sunday afternoon with the Group 3 Supreme Stakes the main dish at 4.00pm.
Racing at the popular Sussex circuit is from 1.45pm through until 5.10pm, with conditions forecast to be 'Good-good to firm in places'.
It promises to be a cracking Sunday afternoon's racing and we've picked out five to follow on the Goodwood card.
2.15pm - Tote.co.uk Handicap (6f)
Locally-based trainer David Menuisier does well with runners at Goodwood, boasting a 27 per-cent strike-rate with runners here since he set up at nearby Pulborough in West Sussex. A chunk of that is owed to ATALANTA'S BOY, winner of this race 12 months ago and now a four-time C&D scorer having scored here in April on his comeback.
His next two runs saw him fluffing his lines at the starting gates and losing his hopes, while he was well held in the Stewards' Cup over C&D last month. This is a less demanding assignment and, just 2lb above his last win-mark, he should go well again around Goodwood.
LiveScore Selection: Atalanta's Boy
2.50pm - tote EBF Restricted Maiden Stakes (1m)
A maiden contest that should afford FIRTH OF CLYDE his chance to get on the scoreboard. He ran well in his first two starts in races won by subsequent Group-race winners Royal Patronage and Reach For The Moon and he took a clear and close second last month at Newmarket behind a promising Marco Botti newcomer.
Upped now to the mile, William Buick rides again after jumping on last time at HQ, and they should take stopping.
LiveScore Selection: Firth Of Clyde
3.25pm - Tote.co.uk Selling Stakes (1m3f)
Just four go in this Selling Stakes and it could easily become a tactical affair. On that front, Oisin Murphy looks an excellent partner for AGGAGIO.
He twice ran well at Haydock and Chepstow over 1m2f after joining this trainer from France in the spring and last week's Stratford effort over hurdles isn't a stick to beat him with.
LiveScore Selection: Aggagio
4pm - Weatherbys Hamilton Supreme Stakes (Group 3, 7f)
A Group 3 feature race in which all six contenders would appear to hold sound claims. Royal runner Tactical may find more in first-time blinkers, while both Mehmento and Rhoscolyn are likely to have their say.
TORO STRIKE was second in this last year behind Happy Power and is a former C&D winner. Last month's effort in the Group 2 Lennox Stakes over C&D was none too shabby and, eased in grade with Ryan Moore taking over, Richard Fahey's colt has his chance again at Goodwood.
LiveScore Selection: Toro Strike
4.35pm - Chichester City Handicap (1m2f)
Impressive as Just Fine was at Sandown winning last time, Sir Michael Stoute's charge has been hit with a meaty enough rise for his win and he might do well to contain possible improver HIGHLAND ROCKER from the John & Thady Gosden team now.
The Gleneagles colt won a Ripon novice in April and, while the following month's handicap bow at Newbury was disappointing, he showed that effort to be wrong by finishing fourth at Newmarket last month in a valuable Class 2 contest.
That form has worked out regally and, from an unchanged mark, he's the one to beat under Rab Havlin.
LiveScore Selection: Highland Rocker
