Pakistan and Ireland have both had T20 World Cup campaigns to forget in many ways with the two teams winning just one of their six games combined, although rain did wash out the Irish's intended clash with the United States.

Pakistan were beaten by the US and missed out on a good opportunity to beat rivals India when letting a strong position slip through their fingers.

They did beat Canada fairly comfortably last time out but their chances of progressing to the Super 8 were all but over by that point.

The United States’ game with Ireland being rained out on Thursday confirmed that the hosts would progress at the expense of both the Irish and Pakistan.

Now both teams will be looking to restore some pride and enjoy a more reliable pitch after their struggles on the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium surface.

Team news

Saim Ayub was brought into the Pakistan side for their last game against Canada and after a solid performance should retain his place.

Ireland are likely to field a similar team to the one that was beaten by Canada in their last completed game.

The stats

Mohammad Rizwan has an excellent record against Ireland and will be looking to get Pakistan off to a good start

Mohammad Rizwan averages 84 in all T20s against the bowling attack that Ireland fielded last time out against Canada.

By contrast, Ireland’s Paul Stirling averages just 16.57 in all T20s against Pakistan's last bowling attack, with Mohammad Amir having dismissed him three times.

Saim Ayub averages 14.60 in 20 innings at international level.

Prediction

Ireland’s batting has let them down during this T20 World Cup, they were bowled for 96 by India in their opener before posting a total of 125-7 when chasing Canada’s 137-7 last time out.

Lorcan Tucker has been one of those to struggle but he has a good previous record at this ground, making scores of 57 not out and 84 in his two previous T20 internationals at the venue.

He also put in strong performances in Ireland’s recent T20 series against Pakistan, with impressive knocks of 51 and 73.

The 27-year-old looks likely to relish both the surroundings and the opponent and looks a big price to be Ireland’s top scorer.
