Mauricio Pochettino has finally got his Chelsea side firing

- Newcastle have conceded two goals in three of their last five league games
- Chelsea have scored 16 goals across their last six league matches
- Recommended bet: Over 1.5 Chelsea goals

Newcaslte have turned St. James' Park into a fortress this term but they have a squad depleted by injuries and will have to dig deep to pick up a positive result against a revitalised Chelsea.

The Magpies have won five of their six home league games this season, losing only to a Liverpool side that netted an injury-time winner, and that run includes a gritty 1-0 success against Arsenal.

However, Eddie Howe’s team are severely weakened by injuries and suspensions and they are in need of a positive response following their recent 2-0 defeat at lowly Bournemouth.

Chelsea, meanwhile, have come back fighting from a slow start to the season with only one defeat in six Premier League games.

Mauricio Pochettino is starting to weave his magic on the Blues, who built on their emphatic 4-1 win away at nine-men Tottenham with a thrilling 4-4 draw against table toppers Manchester City.

Team news

Newcastle have Elliot Anderson, Harvey Barnes, Sven Botman, Dan Burn, Matt Target, Callum Wilson, Javier Manquillo and Jacob Murphy all sidelined through injury.

Sandro Tonali is suspended and Lewis Hall is ineligible to face his parent club. However, Miguel Almiron, Fabian Schar and Alexander Isak are all in contention to return to the side.

Chelsea remain without long-term absentees Carney Chukwuemeka, Ben Chillwell, Trevor Chalobah, Romeo Lavia and Wesley Fofana.

Marco Gusto and Levi Colwill are doubts and the match also comes too soon for Christopher Nkunku, although he is getting closer to making his debut for the Blues.

The stats

Newcastle have won five of their six home league games this season but they have dropped points in three of their last five matches, conceding twice against West Ham, Wolves and Bournemouth.

The Magpies have won only one of their last six meetings with Chelsea, losing to nil in four of those clashes.

Both teams have scored in only one of Newcastle’s last seven matches in all competitions.

Chelsea have found their scoring touch in recent weeks, racking up 16 goals across their last six league matches.

The Blues have scored at least twice in five of those six matches and they have won three away league games in a row at Fulham, Burnley and Tottenham.

Prediction

Eddie Howe's Newcastle look vulnerable due to a lengthy injury list

Newcastle will need their passionate home support to be as vocal as ever if they are going to maintain their excellent Premier League record at St. James' Park.

The Magpies are missing a number of first-team members, which includes two of their preferred back four in central defender Sven Botman and left-back Dan Burn.

That is not to say Newcastle can’t overcome their absentees but it looks a difficult task against a Chelsea side that have found a new lease of life.

The goals have been coming freely for the rejuvenated Blues, who have scored at least twice in five of their last six matches.

Having scored four in back-to-back games with Tottenham and Manchester City, Chelsea should be confident that they can exploit Newcastle’s injury situation.

The Magpies have conceded twice in recent meetings with West Ham, Wolves and Bournemouth, so the Blues should ensure it is a busy afternoon for home shot-stopper Nick Pope.
