Pep Guardiola needs a response from his Manchester City side

- City boss Pep Guardiola has suffered four straight defeats for the first time in his coaching career
- Tottenham are hoping to follow up last month's 2-1 Carabao Cup victory over the Citizens
- Recommended bet:
Man City to win and both teams to score

Manchester City and Tottenham have been involved in some cracking games in recent seasons and Saturday's clash at the Etihad Stadium could be another thriller.

City's four-match losing streak dominated the headlines before the international break but Pep Guardiola's decision to extend his contract has raised morale in the blue half of Manchester this week.

The champions' run of defeats began with a Carabao Cup loss at Tottenham, who are also under pressure following their home reverse against promoted Ipswich last time out.

Team news

City playmaker Kevin De Bruyne should be fit to start but Phil Foden, Jack Grealish and John Stones, who all missed England's Nations League fixtures, are doubts.

Nathan Ake, Manuel Akanji, Ruben Dias, Matheus Nunes and Jeremy Doku will also be assessed but Rodri and Oscar Bobb are long-term absentees.

Tottenham's Rodrigo Bentancur starts a seven-game ban and Richarlison, Micky van de Ven and Wilson Odobert are sidelined.

However, Spurs should welcome back winger Timo Werner, centre-back Cristian Romero and young forward Mikey Moore.

The stats

Four of the last five Premier League meetings at the Etihad Stadium have featured over 3.5 goals

City have lost three of their last four games by a 2-1 scoreline.

The Citizens have kept only one clean sheet in their last 10 league matches.

Both teams have scored in seven of Tottenham's last nine games in all competitions.

Spurs have found the net in four of their last five away defeats.

Tottenham have lost seven of their last 11 Premier League away fixtures.

Prediction

Last season's Premier League meeting between City and Tottenham at the Etihad Stadium ended 3-3 and their previous two league fixtures in Manchester produced a 4-2 win for City and a 3-2 victory for Spurs.

Both clubs have been struggling defensively this season so another high-scoring game is expected and backing City to win and both teams to score looks a good bet.

All four of their defeats, against Tottenham in the cup, Bournemouth and Brighton in the league and Sporting in the Champions League, came away from home and they can get back to winning ways on their own patch.

Spurs have a formidable home record against Pep's men but they have been on a poor run of form on the road, both at the end of last season and the start of this term.

Ange Postecoglou's side have lost their last three away fixtures in all competitions and two of those defeats, at Brighton and Europa League rivals Galatasaray, were by a 3-2 scoreline.

They are unlikely to sit back against City but seven of the champions' last nine home league results have been victories in which both teams scored and that trend may well continue this weekend.
