Manchester City to win and over 3.5 goals

Twelve months on from the first Manchester derby in an FA Cup final there is another opportunity for City and United to get their hands on the famous trophy.

City got off to a dream start in last season’s showpiece with Ilkay Gundogan scoring after 12 seconds but they had to work hard from that point onwards to secure a 2-1 victory.

Pep Guardiola’s side have had another memorable campaign by following success at the Club World Cup with a fourth successive Premier League title.

But United seem to be a club on the slide having posted their lowest Premier League finish (8th) since 1990.

However, the Red Devils are the second most successful club in FA Cup history, winning the competition on 12 occasions.

Team news

Ederson (fractured eye socket) is unavailable so Stefan Ortega will continue between the posts.

Pep Guardiola may be reluctant to make many changes to the side which defeated West Ham 3-1 last Sunday.

Marcus Rashford and Raphael Varane featured in last Sunday’s 2-0 success at Brighton, putting them in contention to feature at Wembley.

Harry Maguire is back in training but Tyrell Malacia (knee) misses out and there are doubts over Luke Shaw, Victor Lindelof (both thigh), Mason Mount (unspecified injury) and Anthony Martial (groin).

The stats

Erik ten Hag's injury concerns may be easing but City won the last derby 3-1, outshooting United 27-3

Manchester City have won their last 10 matches against domestic opposition.

All of City’s last six wins have been by a margin of at least two goals.

City have scored at least three goals in eight of their last 12 fixtures.

Manchester United have kept only one clean sheet in their last 12 matches.

Seven of United’s last 10 games have generated at least four goals.

Prediction

Manchester City finished 31 points above Manchester United in the Premier League table and they should sweep aside the Red Devils in the FA Cup final.

Pep Guardiola’s side were pushed all the way by Arsenal in the title race but they seemed to play even better when the pressure increased.

They won their last nine league fixtures - scoring 33 goals in the process - and are approaching the weekend full of confidence.

United finished off their league campaign with victories at home to Newcastle (3-2) and away to Brighton (2-0) and are heading to Wembley with a stronger squad than has been the case in recent weeks.

However, they were beaten 3-1 by City at the Etihad in March — losing the shot count 27 to three — and may suffer an even heavier loss this weekend.
