West Brom draw no bet

It has been a miserable return to the Championship for Luton, who continued their dreadful start to the season by embarrassingly throwing away a two-goal lead at Coventry to lose 3-2 last Saturday.

The Hatters are now 22nd in the table and in desperate need of some points, with a visit from fifth-placed West Brom unlikely to provide that tonic, even if the Baggies’ own form has dipped in recent weeks.

Team news

Luton have plenty of key absentees in defence, with Reece Burke, Amari’i Bell and Mads Andersen injured and Alfie Doughty suspended alongside Tom Holmes.

The Hatters, therefore, will be hoping Teden Mengi can recover from a knock to feature on Friday night.

West Brom are also without three injured defenders as Semi Ajayi, Paddy McNair and Kyle Bartley are all sidelined alongside forward Daryl Dike.

The stats

Carlos Corberan's West Brom have not won in six games, although they have drawn their last four

Luton have lost three of their last four matches.

West Brom’s last four matches have finished level.

The Baggies have won five of the last seven meetings between this pair.

Both teams to score has been a winning bet in five of Luton’s home games this term.

West Brom have failed to score in four of their last five league matches.

Alex Mowatt has scored three goals in his last four away appearances.

Prediction

Despite his players taking full blame for last weekend’s capitulation at Coventry, the pressure is growing on Rob Edwards to get some positive results soon and he will be looking for a big reaction from his side against the Baggies.

They may fancy their chances given West Brom have now gone six games without a win following their 0-0 draw with Cardiff last time but that disappointing run just means Carlos Corberan will also be searching for a reaction, and he looks the more likely to get one.

While the Baggies have struggled for wins, they have at least drawn their last four matches, while Luton have lost three in the same span of time. Furthermore, West Brom have won five of the past seven meetings between the pair, making them the more appealing option for Friday’s clash.

Luton will be without a spate of key defenders and even an expectant Kenilworth Road crowd is unlikely to see them bounce back to winning ways against a well-drilled Baggies outfit.

However, while West Brom certainly have the attacking talent to land three points — only Norwich’s Borja Sainz has netted more Championship goals than Baggies striker Josh Maja this term — the fact they have drawn their last four matches cannot be ignored and it could be worth getting the stake back should a fifth consecutive game featuring Corberan’s men finish level.
