Newbury hosts an eight-race card on Saturday
Newbury hosts an eight-race card on Saturday

Newbury's Super Sprint card is amongst the stellar attractions on a busy Saturday afternoon of racing.

The big Sales race for 2YOs is worth just shy of £100k to the winner and affords a significant opportunity to some less-expensive purchases.

There is an excellent supporting card, with racing from 1.15pm until 5.20pm, and we have picked out five horses to follow.

1.50pm - bet365 Stakes (Registered as The Steventon Stakes) (Listed, 1m2f)

The likes of Solid Stone, Stormy Antarctic and Blue Cup are solid performers, while 3YOs Derab and Moving Time could have plenty to offer.

But it was tough not to be impressed with REAL WORLD given the demolition job he performed in the Hunt Cup at Royal Ascot last month, spread-eagling a 30-runner field.

That was the first start on turf for Saeed bin Suroor's Dark Angel colt and his efforts in Dubai tell us this extra two-furlongs should not be a problem. He is well worth a crack in Listed company.

LiveScore Selection: Real World

2.25pm - Bahrain Turf Series Handicap (2m½f)

Zeeband stormed home to win the Northumberland Vase at Newcastle three weeks ago, with Margaret Dumont behind in second, and Roger Varian's improving Sea The Stars gelding is a big player now equipped with a first-time visor.

He is up 8lb, however, and maybe a better hope is the Paul Nicholls-trained SCARAMANGA

He was twice successful in the spring over hurdles — including here — and last summer's Flat form gives him very valid claims with Hayley Turner an excellent ally in the plate this time.

LiveScore Selection: Scaramanga

3pm - bet365 Hackwood Stakes (Group 3, 6f)

Tabdeed won this last year and returns after a similar preparation but in Diligent Harry and KING'S LYNN he faces dangerous younger rivals.

They are closely matched on formlines through Rohaan. Clive Cox's runner gets 5lb but the 3YO has never raced on grass — and that is enough to sway the vote to King's Lynn.

Andrew Balding's charge ran a stormer in last month's Group 1 King's Stand at Ascot over 5f before turning out four days later under a penalty when third in the Wokingham behind Rohaan.

He looked a shade unlucky in the run and could make amends in this smaller field.

LiveScore Selection: King's Lynn

3.40pm - Weatherbys Super Sprint Stakes (5f)

As always, an ultra-competitive renewal of this 2YO Sales race offering a big bounty to less glamourous purchases.

Richard Hannon and Richard Fahey have combined to win six of the last eight renewals.

Vintage Clarets represents Fahey and has super form claims alongside Chipotle for Eve Johnston-Houghton, while Hannon aims five at the prize and once-raced Leicester winner Gubbass could be best of them under Sean Levey.

Among the outsiders, look out for ADAAY IN ASIA, who won a good little race at Lingfield last time, having looked in trouble on the home bend.

She showed a nice gear change and Silvestre De Sousa's mount has a featherweight today.

LiveScore Selection: Adaay In Asia

4.10pm - Whitsbury Manor Stud Supporting The British EBF Premier Fillies' Handicap (1m)

DECLARED INTEREST looked an improved performer on seasonal return at Leicester over this trip and a one-length fourth since in the Kensington Palace Stakes at Royal Ascot hardly counts against Ralph Beckett's filly.

She has only been nudged up 1lb for that effort last month and has excellent prospects here.

Areehaa is a Kingman filly with scope for improvement and ranks amongst the dangers for Gary Moore having caught the eye at Newmarket on seasonal return/first start for this yard.

LiveScore Selection: Declared Interest
