- Liverpool have won their first three Champions League games
- Leverkusen have won two, drawn one so far
- Recommended bet:
Liverpool to win and both teams to score

Liverpool have won their first three games in the the Champions League and they should make it four out of four when they welcome former midfielder Xabi Alonso and his Bayer Leverkusen team to Anfield on Tuesday.

The Reds are flying under new boss Arne Slot, who has now overseen 13 wins from 15 games in all competitions this season.

Leverkusen will test the Merseysiders but this should end up being another home success, three days after Liverpool came from behind to see off Brighton 2-1 at Anfield to move top of the Premier League.

Team news

Liverpool are likely to be without Ibrahima Konate after the centre-back suffered an arm injury that forced him off at half-time against Brighton on Saturday with Joe Gomez poised to start in his place.

Alisson, Diogo Jota, Harvey Elliott and Federico Chiesa are all still absent for the home side.

Leverkusen wing-back Nordi Mukiele suffered a thigh injury in Friday's draw with Stuttgart and is set to miss the trip to Anfield but Martin Terrier could be available.

Amine Adli and Jeanuel Belocian remain absent for the visitors.

Liverpool have conceded just one goal in their three Euro assignments.

Leverkusen have scored six goals in total in their three Champions League outings.

The two sides have met in the Champions League four times before with Liverpool winning three of the games and Leverkusen triumphing once.

Leverkusen knocked Liverpool out in the quarter-finals in 2002 when they won 4-3 on aggregate.

The Reds won 6-2 on aggregate in the last-16 in 2005 en route to winning their fifth European crown.

Prediction

Liverpool have been hugely impressive under Slot so far, moving to the top of the Premier League with eight wins from their first 10 games, while they have also registered three fairly comfortable victories in Europe.

A 3-1 matchday one success at AC Milan set the tone nicely in the Champions League and while this home clash with Alonso's Leverkusen is probably their stiffest test yet in the competition this season, all the signs are that it is one the Reds will pass.

The German champions beat Feyenoord and Milan to also start well, before being held to a frustrating draw by Brest last time out.

The defence of their Bundesliga crown has not gone exactly to plan, though, as four wins, four draws and one defeat in their first nine games sees Leverkusen fourth in the table, seven points behind leaders Bayern Munich.

Leverkusen have only failed to score in one of their 15 matches in all competitions this season and the visitors possess plenty of attacking threat with the likes of Victor Boniface, Florian Wirtz and Jeremie Frimpong in their ranks.

They should be good enough to get on the scoresheet at Anfield but preventing the in-form hosts from securing another victory looks a tough task.
