Play-off chasing Leyton Orient made it five wins in a row by overcoming relegation-threatened Shrewsbury 1-0 at Brisbane Road.

A goal from Tottenham loanee Jamie Donley after 63 minutes, his third in as many matches, settled the issue.

There was little in the first-half to warm the spirits with the best chance falling to Donley, who spurned a good opportunity to put the hosts ahead just before the half-time whistle when he headed wide of the target.

The O’s showed far more quality after the break with Charlie Kelman, Jordan Brown and Sonny Perkins all threatening to break the deadlock before Donley struck.

Collecting a pass from Kelman, the midfielder sent his shot from the tightest of angles across keeper Jamal Blackman to stretch Orient’s unbeaten league run to eight matches.

The O’s threatened to extend their advantage thereafter and Kelman went closest when a delightful lob landed on the top of the net.

Shrewsbury are eight points from safety having won just one of their last eight games.
