Leeds have sacked manager Jesse Marsch following Sunday's disappointing 1-0 defeat at Nottingham Forest.

The West Yorkshire outfit sit 17th in the Premier League and are outside the drop zone on goal difference having failed to win any of their last seven top-flight games, with their most recent victory coming against Bournemouth on November 5.

Marsch, 49, lasted less than 12 months at Elland Road after being appointed as Marcelo Bielsa's successor in late February 2022.

A club statement said: "We would like to thank Jesse and his backroom staff for their efforts and wish them well for the future.

"The process of appointing a new head coach is under way and we will continue to keep supporters up to date throughout the coming days."

Marsch arrived in England having enjoyed previous spells at New York Red Bulls, FC Salzburg and RB Leipzig.

The American kept the Whites in the Premier League last season but his side have struggled to kick on and climb the table this term, despite being backed heavily in the transfer market.

USA internationals Tyler Adams and Brenden Aaronson were recruited last summer, with fellow Stars and Stripes midfielder Weston McKennie added on loan last month.

Club-record signing Georginio Rutter was also purchased for a reported £36million.

West Brom boss Carlos Corberan — Bielsa's former assistant at Elland Road — has been earmarked as the early favourite to take the reins.

Leeds face Manchester United twice this week. They make the trip to Old Trafford on Wednesday night before hosting the Red Devils on Sunday.
