Jorginho admits Chelsea paid the price for losing their heads during Sunday's 3-0 drubbing at Leeds.

The Italian midfielder, 30, watched in horror as Edouard Mendy gifted Brenden Aaronson the opener at Elland Road after 33 minutes.

It went from bad to worse for the Blues as Rodrigo headed home a second for Jesse Marsch's men four minutes later, while Jack Harrison rounded off the scoring in the 69th minute.

The comprehensive defeat was the first of the season for Thomas Tuchel's side and stand-in skipper Jorginho claims they only have themselves to blame.

He said: "We started well in the first 15 or 20 minutes, then we got a bit frustrated from them scoring and we started doing stuff we weren’t supposed to.

"We got stuck. We conceded and then we lost our heads, which cannot happen. We got punished.

"We knew it was coming [Leeds’ intensity and high press]. We were creating a lot and following the plan but we were not finishing it and then we started doing different stuff.

"We were playing some balls we don’t usually. If we had kept following the plan, and worked our way out of pressure, maybe it would be a different story."

With Leicester next up at Stamford Bridge on Saturday, Jorginho insists Chelsea have to move on quickly.

He added: "We always try to improve and to help each other to push even more, unfortunately we couldn’t do it [at Leeds].

"We have to move on. These things can happen but it is about how we come back in the next game."

The Euro 2020 winner also had some words of sympathy for Mendy. He said: "Everyone has been there. He is strong and has a strong mentality. It’s time to move on."
