Delay won't hurt us

Eddie Howe insists Newcastle's late arrival in Milan will not affect their chances of making a positive start in the Champions League.

His squad were left sitting on the tarmac for nearly two hours before taking off due to a storm in Italy, which meant Howe's pre-match press conference did not start when it should have.

But the Toon boss played down the fact the club had inadvertently broken UEFA timekeeping rules ahead of tonight's Group F clash with AC Milan at the San Siro.

Howe, 45, said: "This was a weather problem but we've been in similar situations.

"It's something we're used to, although it's a slightly later arrival time than we would have liked for the players. It's no big deal, though."

Toon fan stabbed

A Newcastle fan is stable in hospital after being stabbed in Milan last night.

Eddie McKay, 58, was with his son and a friend when they were attacked by a group of seven or eight people, who he claims were wearing balaclavas.

A Newcastle statement said: "We are deeply concerned by reports that a supporter was seriously assaulted in Milan on Monday evening and we are liaising with local authorities to understand the circumstances.

"Our thoughts are with the supporter and their family and we hope for a full and speedy recovery."

The Toon supporter received stab wounds to his back and arms after he fell to the ground while trying to run away.

Police in Milan confirmed he was treated for injuries by paramedics at the scene and is in a city hospital.

I owe Casemiro

Sergio Reguilon has revealed how Casemiro helped Manchester United quickly feel like home following his summer loan switch from Tottenham.

With regular left-back Luke Shaw injured, United swooped for Reguilon before the transfer window slammed shut.

And the defender, 26, is delighted to be back alongside former Real Madrid team-mate Casemiro.

He said: "I really have so many good memories with him. A lot of games, training sessions and trips with him.

"He sent me a message on the first day when I arrived here, saying he could help me if I needed anything at all. I'm really grateful to him."

Great start

Andy Robertson was delighted to see academy graduate Jarell Quansah impress on his full Premier League debut as Liverpool beat Wolves 3-1.

Quansah, 20, put in an assured performance at the heart of the defence and Robertson believes there is more to come.

He said: "He has got a bright future ahead of him but the here and now is pretty good as well.

"For him to step in at a really tough place to come and to put in that performance, particularly in the second half, then fair play to him for his first start."

Back in training

Mason Mount and Raphael Varane trained on the eve of Manchester United's Champions League clash with Bayern Munich.

Erik ten Hag’s men kick off their European campaign against the Bundesliga champions tomorrow night.

United went through their paces at Carrington ahead of flying to Germany, with Mount and Varane both involved after injury.

MLS terminate Miljevic's deal

Matko Miljevic's contract has been terminated by Major League Soccer "for engaging in conduct detrimental to the league".

It is claimed the Montreal midfielder played for an amateur team under a fake name and was also banned indefinitely for punching an opponent.

New deal

Chelsea youngster Alfie Gilchrist has signed a new two-year deal with the club.

The centre-back, who captains the Blues' Under-21s, is now tied to Stamford Bridge until 2025 and the Premier League outfit have the option to extend his stay by a further 12 months.

Gilchrist, 19, progressed through Chelsea's academy ranks after joining at the age of 11.
