Fowler sacked

Robbie Fowler has been sacked by Saudi Arabian club Al-Qadsiah, despite making an unbeaten start to the season.

The Liverpool legend, 48, was appointed by the Saudi First Division League side back in June and leaves them in second position, just one point behind leaders Al-Orobah.

Despite winning six and drawing two of their eight games under Fowler, Al-Qadsiah released a short statement to announce the decision.

It read: "The club appreciates the coach's efforts and professionalism during the previous period and wishes him all the success in his professional career."

The second-tier team finished 11th last season, 23 points adrift of the promotion spots.

Fowler has been replaced by former Sevilla and Marseille manager Michel.

World's his oyster

Jurgen Klopp has spoken about Mohamed Salah's ability to adapt ahead of Liverpool's match with Nottingham Forest on Saturday.

The manager said: "The young Mo was a super fast player who could run in behind and play a role together with [Edin] Dzeko. From the first day here he had to do different things.

"He adapted extremely well, but the playmaker in that front row was probably more Bobby [Roberto Firmino] and you don't need then two players who are deeper.

"Now it is slightly different, especially when Darwin [Nunez] is playing we have another speed player up there. So that changed Mo's position.

"He is smart enough to adapt to all these things and there has been a massive development since he arrived.

"He is world class in all phases and that is probably the best thing you can say about a player."

Mauricio Pochettino is in agreement with Chelsea fans that are unhappy with the scheduling of their Christmas Eve clash at Wolves.

Speaking ahead of the Blues' match with Brentford, the Argentine revealed that he had a stronger reason than most to be aggrieved at the decision.

He said: "Our supporters are not happy? Me either.

"I'm not happy also because December 23 is my anniversary with my wife and I need to travel to Wolves and I'm not going to spend the night of the 23rd in my house.

"I believe I am not going to convince her to come.

"And the 24th for Argentinian people is a really important night and I hope to arrive to celebrate on time after the game. Our fans are not happy and I am not happy also."

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta admits Gabriel Jesus could be out for some weeks with a muscle injury.

The Brazilian striker was substituted during the Gunners' 2-1 Champions League win at Sevilla on Tuesday night.

Arteta said: "The scan showed there is a muscle injury. We might lose him for a few weeks again.

"With Gabi, I cannot give you any time frame because he always surprises us.

"But there is something there. He had quite a load over the last few weeks. It's really bad news for us."

Jesus missed the start of the season, having undergone knee surgery in the summer.

Wayne Rooney has called for patience from Birmingham fans after losing the first two matches of his reign.

The Blues controversially sacked John Eustace with the team sixth in the Championship and appointed the former England striker. They have since been defeated by Middlesbrough and Hull.

Rooney said: "My message to the fans would be to be patient.

"The club has been in a position over the last decade where it's had almost a way of playing, which is why they're still in the position they're in.

"From my point of view, I want to move the club forward and change the culture and identity of the club."

Upon sacking Eustace, Birmingham chief executive Garry Cook spoke of plans for a "fearless" brand of football that Rooney has been brought in to implement.
