Pep talk

Pep Guardiola has revealed he was under no illusions as to how tricky last night's Champions League tie with FC Copenhagen would be. 

City took an early lead through Kevin De Bruyne but were pegged back by Magnus Mattsson's 34th-minute equaliser in the first leg of the last-16 encounter in Denmark. 

Bernardo Silva restored the advantage moments before the break and Phil Foden added a touch of gloss to the scoreline at the end of the second half to put City in firm control going into the return fixture next month. 

But Guardiola, 53, did not enjoy the most comfortable of evenings. He said: "I know how difficult it is. As a team they don't come to take the ball — they come to defend the space.

"My job is to warn the players and tell them the attributes we will need and they proved it and felt it. We behaved with the correct personality and patience and everyone was at top, top level.

"You don't make this level in last 16 without it. Hopefully we can make the next step and go to the quarter-finals.

"The first game of the last 16 is always dangerous but the players behaved and performed really good again."

Bad news for Wolves

Gary O'Neil cannot put a timeframe on how long Wolves will be without Matheus Cunha. 

The Brazilian attacker, 24, was forced off in the 20th minute as O'Neil's men were beaten 2-0 by Brentford. 

And the Wolves boss has now revealed that tests and scans have failed to shed any light on how long Cunha will be sidelined for.

He said: "It's a fairly significant injury to his hamstring. There's no timeline on it. 

"I've spoken to Matheus a lot and he just wants to keep pushing to get back as soon as he can. 

"He's started working on it already, so we're just going to monitor it week by week, day by day, see how far he can come and how quickly we can get him back. 

"He's keen to get back out there as soon as possible. It’s obviously a big blow to us because of the work he's been doing — the form he was in was exceptional. 

"These things happen, every team suffers injuries."

Happy for RLC

Carlo Cudicini is delighted to see Ruben Loftus-Cheek shining for AC Milan but insists Chelsea do not regret selling him. 

The England midfielder, 28, parted company with the Blues last summer after a spell punctuated by loans and blighted by injuries. 

And Cudicini has suggested the time was right to part company. 

Chelsea's loan player technical coach told Tuttosport: "He has reached the peak of his maturity but we have changed philosophy and we rely on young players. 

"I am happy he's doing well at Milan, we always keep an eye on him, but it's a matter of affection. 

"He had many coaches at Chelsea, playing in different positions, but nobody understood where he could perform best. 

"I am happy he's getting satisfaction at Milan now. They are a special club for me."

Enzo has high hopes

Enzo Fernandez insists Chelsea are doing everything they can to pull off a cup double this season. 

Mauricio Pochettino's side have struggled for consistency in the Premier League but have been a different animal in knockout competitions. 

The Blues face Liverpool in the Carabao Cup final at Wembley on February 25 before welcoming old rivals Leeds to Stamford Bridge in the FA Cup fifth round just three days later. 

And Fernandez, 23, would love to get his hands on two trophies as Poch's young squad battle to defy the critics who have all but written them off.

He told the club's official website: "There's a long way to go until the end of the season. We are working hard every day. We are moving forward and doing our best.

"We're on the right track and hopefully we can win two titles this season. That's what we're looking to do."

United we stand

Summer signing Irene Guerrero is determined to repay the Manchester United faithful for their unwavering support. 

With their Women's Super League title challenge faltering, the FA Cup is the best hope Marc Skinner's side have of securing silverware this season after early exits from the Champions League and Conti Cup.

But the club's fans remain firmly behind the players despite not having much to cheer about — and Guerrero, 27, is eternally grateful. 

In an episode of TeamViewer Diaries, she said: "To feel their support out on the pitch makes it even more special because they never give up on you.

"I think they're crucial to us winning games because when you're out on your feet and you see them all cheering you on, you try to dig that bit deeper to give them the win. 

"The support I've been getting from the fans has been very positive and I hope I can repay their faith in me with results on the pitch."

FA charge Wilder

Sheffield United boss Chris Wilder has been charged by the FA for comments made about referee Tony Harrington after last month's defeat at Crystal Palace. 

Wilder, 56, described Harrington's display on January 30 as "ridiculous" and said he had been told by a Premier League referee before the game that every 50/50 decision would go against them. 

The FA said the comments from Wilder, who has until Friday to respond, constitute improper conduct.
