Enjoy him while you can

Roberto De Zerbi has admitted Joao Pedro could soon join the cast of high-profile players leaving Brighton for big money.

The Seagulls made the Brazilian their record signing in the summer, spending £30million to recruit him from Watford.

And he has made an immediate impact at the Amex Stadium, becoming the top goalscorer in the Europa League before netting twice and laying on a superb assist in yesterday's 4-2 win over Tottenham.

De Zerbi said after the game: "He was the best player on the pitch.

"He played another incredible game. I am really pleased with his improvement in mentality and attitude. In the defensive phase he defended like a centre-back for 90 minutes.

"He is becoming a top player. I hope in the next year to work with him but it will be very tough."

Eddie Howe says Newcastle will not spend big in January

Eddie Howe has revealed Newcastle will not spend big on January signings as they aim to tur their season around.

The Magpies have lost five of their last seven matches in all competitions, also losing on penalties to Chelsea in the Carabao Cup quarter-final.

But their manager insists there is not the money to radically change the squad.

He said: "No, we haven’t had those assurances.

"I think it's a difficult month, as we always say when January comes around. I apologise if I sound like I'm saying the same things but it is a very difficult month to bring in quality players.

"Financial Fair Play continues to play a part in our decision-making, so let’s wait and see."

Bowen demands more

Jarrod Bowen wants West Ham to win consistently

Jarrod Bowen insists West Ham must keep delivering consistently if they are to challenge for the top six of the Premier League.

The Hammers won 2-0 at Arsenal on Thursday, banking back-to-back wins after seeing off Manchester United last weekend.

And their star forward has called on them to go again when they play Brighton on Tuesday.

Bowen said: "It's a massive win. We knew it was going to be difficult as these are a top side but we managed to build on what we did against Manchester United.

"I think we haven't been consistent enough. We might have won one game and then the Fulham game springs to mind when we conceded five.

"If we want to be spoken about to go to the top six and finish higher in the division then we need to be consistent.

"We play Brighton in a few days and we have to go and win that as well."

Senegal announce AFCON squad

Senegal have selected six Premier League players in their squad for the Africa Cup of Nations.

Pape Sarr of Tottenham, Chelsea's Nicolas Jackson and Everton midfielder Idrissa Gueye are among those who will play in the tournament.

Nottingham Forest pair Moussa Niakhate and Cheikhou Kouyate are also picked, as well as Fode Ballo-Toure of Fulham.

Former Liverpool star Sadio Mane is named too.

The tournament, held in Ivory Coast, kicks off on January 13 and ends on February 11, meaning the players could miss a month of club action.

Defending champions Senegal begin their campaign against Gambia on January 15.
