Bournemouth announce takeover

Bournemouth have announced that owner Maxim Demin has sold 100% of his shares to Bill Foley of Black Knight Football Club.

The Cherries sit 14th in the Premier League table having already sacked Scott Parker last August, after the former midfielder had disagreements about the club's transfer strategy.

Parker was replaced by Gary O'Neil who will hope the new ownership will result in an injection of cash to improve his squad.

A club statement read: "Bournemouth can confirm that owner Maxim Demin has sold his 100% stake in the club to Black Knight Football Club, of which Bill Foley is the managing general partner, with a number of limited partners.

"Bill had attended the Cherries’ victory over Leicester in October ahead of completing the deal, which has now been ratified by the Premier League.

"A businessman and philanthropist, Bill also has an extensive background in sports including tremendous success as the founder and owner of the National Hockey League’s Vegas Golden Knights, the first major league sports team in Las Vegas.

"Bill and his partners are committed to providing the investment to sustain and build upon Bournemouth’s recent accomplishments, which includes returning to the Premier League in 2022-23, where the Cherries have spent six of the last eight seasons."

Foley is set to attend Bournemouth's first home game in the Premier League after the World Cup has concluded, which will be against Crystal Palace on New Year's Eve.

The South Coast club return to action against Newcastle in next Tuesday's Carabao Cup fourth-round tie before a league trip to Chelsea on December 27.

Foley, 77, added: "I have tremendous respect for the passion and support the Bournemouth community shows for this club and believe that connection to the community is the foundation for success of any sports team.

"We will move forward with an 'always advance, never retreat' approach that has defined all of my endeavours.

"I am committed to work with the best football and business minds available to enhance player development, facilities, and the fan experience to put Bournemouth in the best possible position to succeed."

England and Wales fans praised for behaviour 

England and Wales fans have been praised for their good behaviour at the World Cup in Qatar by the UK’s football policing lead.

Mark Roberts has said that there were no police incidents and no arrests throughout the teams’ participation in the tournament.

He has also stated that the ban on the sale of alcohol will have helped to some degree when it came to crowd management. 

In a statement, he said: "Throughout the home nations’ involvement in the tournament there were no arrests or incidents to report, which is a credit to all those who travelled.

"In Russia 2018 there were three arrests, but obviously having two teams in this tournament we played double the group-stage games, including a home nations derby, which underlines the good nature of our fans.

"The atmosphere at all the home nations’ games was passionate but friendly and it would be fantastic to see this replicated at matches back home throughout the rest of the season.

"Traditionally we do have few arrests of our fans at World Cups, but to have zero isn’t something we have seen before."

Regragui targets World Cup final

Walid Regragui says his Morocco side will fight to achieve an impossible dream by making the World Cup final.

The African nation have already made history by making the semi-finals, beating Belgium, Spain and Portugal along the way.

On Wednesday, the Atlas Lions will face reigning champions France in their toughest test yet, but Regragui is confident that they can overcome Didier Deschamps' men.

He said: "The further you get, the more difficult the games are. We are playing the world champions with world-class players and a very good coach, possibly the best in the world.

"But we will show great desire and try to pull off an upset. Why not reach the final of the World Cup?

"We’ve come to this competition to change mindsets within our continent. If we say the semi-final is enough, I don’t agree.

"We are one of the four best teams in the world now and we want to reach the final. The best team, Brazil, is already knocked out.

"We are hungry. I don’t know if it will be enough but we want Africa to be on top of the world. I know we are not favourites but we are confident."

Zinchenko: Jesus a big miss

Oleksandr Zinchenko has highlighted what a huge miss Gabriel Jesus will be for Arsenal when the Premier League returns after Christmas.

The Ukrainian defender joined the Gunners from Manchester City last summer and has played a key role in helping push his side to the top of the table after 14 games.

Zinchenko swapped Manchester for London alongside City team-mate Jesus, but the latter has picked up a serious injury that could rule him out for up to three months.

Speaking on the striker, the utility man said: "We are all behind him and supporting him, of course it's a big miss for our team.

"The impact of what he's doing for the club is amazing. I've known him for a while and he's a big warrior and I'm 100% sure he will be much, much stronger."

Zinchenko has backed Eddie Nketiah to step in and fill the boots of the Brazilian during his absence.

He said: "Since I came here, [Nketiah] has been amazing.

"Honestly, even watching him last season, I was surprised a lot because the ability and quality he has is incredible. He has amazing potential and future for sure."

Blues have Bright future

Chelsea defender Millie Bright has backed her side to push on after the Blues claimed their ninth-straight Women's Super League win on Sunday.

The West London club sit top of the WSL and have looked fearsome in recent weeks but survived a scare when Reading fought back from three goals down before losing 3-2.

Speaking after the win, Bright said: "Teams are getting better this year and we expected that from Reading, that grit and determination to keep pushing and challenge us from start to finish.

"As disappointing as it is, we have to put it to one side and not dwell, it’s three points in the bag.

"We’ve put ourselves in a strong position, but we all know that this league is very competitive and challenging. It’s a position we definitely wanted to go into the Christmas break in.

"We keep going game by game, but a brilliant position to be in."
