Real's new jersey

Real Madrid have released their third kit for 2023-24.

Los Blancos and German manufacturer adidas have created a bold design celebrating the team crest, iconic kits of the past and the club's status as legends of European football.

Real have won the Champions League a record 14 times — the last of which came in 2021-22.

Sporting a black colourway, the kit also features shocks of yellow and it is available to purchase from today via via adidas stores, Real Madrid stores, wholesalers and online.

Courtois injury blow

Real Madrid have confirmed Thibaut Courtois has ruptured his ACL in training just days before the new LaLiga season starts.

The Belgian goalkeeper will have surgery in the coming days and is set to miss the majority of the campaign.

Los Blancos wrote in a statement: "After the tests carried out on our player Thibaut Courtois, he’s been diagnosed with a rupture of the anterior cruciate ligament of his left knee.

"The player will undergo surgery in the coming days."

Courtois' injury could force Real to dip into the transfer market, with the inexperienced Andriy Lunin currently the only viable option for the team's opener away at Athletic Bilbao on Saturday.

The 22-year-old midfielder scored five Women's Super League goals last term and was subsequently named the Reds' Player of the Season by supporters.

On her new deal, the England Under-23 international said: "It's the same feeling as my first ever one, it's a very proud moment and it shows all the hard work has been paying off.

"It's a big thing to sign a professional contract at any club, never mind Liverpool, and I'm fortunate enough to be keeping on my journey here.

Sadio's choice

Sadio Mane has revealed he rejected chances to reunite with former Liverpool team-mates Roberto Firmino and Fabinho in Saudi Arabia.

Firmino has joined Al-Ahli alongside Riyad Mahrez, Allan Saint-Maximin and Edouard Mendy, while Fabinho is now with Al-Ittihad who boast Karim Benzema and N'Golo Kante in their ranks.

But Mane instead chose to move to Al-Nassr and form a strike partnership with Cristiano Ronaldo.

The Senegal star said: "Firmino called two or three times to convince me to come to Al-Ahli.

"At the same time I spoke with Fabinho because he was quite close to me and he also wanted me to come to Al-Ittihad, but I chose Al-Nassr."

Rodri's warning

Manchester City midfielder Rodri has warned club chiefs he risks burnout if he plays the same number of games as last season.

The Spanish maestro, 27, made 56 appearances across all competitions for the Citizens as they won a historic Treble.

Rodri tallied 4,465 minutes of action and insists he cannot continue with such a strenuous workload.

He said: "I don't remember exactly the number of games I played but I had a talk with the club and the coach because it's not healthy.

"You can do it for one season. But when it's two or three in a row, it can be worse for the team because your physicality can drop.

"So I have to watch out. It cannot always be like this.

"The important thing for me is they know the situation and they know that for the next few seasons we will have to watch out."

Tomi's positivity

Arsenal's Takehiro Tomiyasu is not letting his fitness issues from previous seasons get to him ahead of the team's opener against Nottingham Forest on Saturday.

The Japan international missed the business end of 2022-23 after injuring his knee against Sporting Lisbon in the Europa League, with the Gunners going on to lose out to Manchester City in the Premier League title race.

But versatile defender Tomiyasu, 24, believes that is all in the past as he looks towards taking positive strides this term.

In an interview with Goal, the ex-Bologna ace said: "If I can perform well in two to three years, no one will remember my injury.

"Injuries and other negative events did happen [last season]. But if you ultimately succeed, those negatives will just be a part of the process.

"Say, two or three years later, if there's a World Cup and I perform well and succeed there, nobody's going to remember this injury. I saw it as part of the process to succeed in the end."

On his Champions League chance with Arsenal, he added: "It's my first time and it's a special stage that I've been dreaming of."
