Substitute Renate Jansen was the Netherlands' hero as she fired her side to a 2-1 Women's Nations League win over England in the 90th minute to secure all three points.

The hosts opened the scoring when Georgia Stanway's clearance was closed down and broke to Danielle van de Donk, who set up Lieke Martens to curl home.

Sarina Wiegman's side were furious over the goal as Van de Donk looked to be offside when she received the ball but the absence of VAR saw the goal stand.

It took until the second half for Alessia Russo to equalise with a brilliantly improvised strike to guide home Stanway's deflected cross into the back of the net.

However, Jansen would have the final say when Martens capitalised on Alex Greenwood's weak pass to play the striker one-on-one for her to power the winning goal past Mary Earps.

Here are five talking points from the Netherlands win.

Dutch control

The Netherlands were in complete command against England in the first half.

The backline kept Russo quiet, with wing-backs Victoria Pelova and Esmee Brugts working hard to tuck in on the flanks, providing extra cover.

Going forward, they stretched the Lionesses' and aimed to press them into mistakes with midfield controller Keira Walsh out injured.

Andries Jonker's side executed the plan to perfection as Martens' strike saw them head into the break a goal ahead.

Phenomenal Van Domselaar

Aston Villa's new summer signing Daphne van Domselaar put on a stunning display for the Netherlands between the sticks.

The 23-year-old goalkeeper produced several saves in the first half, parrying Lauren Hemp's accurate effort away before scampering back to stop Stanway's rebounded strike.

In the second half, she darted across her line to deny Hemp's sliding shot at the back post — showcasing her agility.

Russo's top-corner strike was the only way past the shot-stopper but Villa fans will be encouraged by the performance.

Russo magic

Russo saw little action but when the chance fell to her feet, she showed clinical finishing.

The Arsenal ace had a hard time as the hosts marked her aggressively to limit her time in possession but she still came up trumps for the Lionesses.

Her razor-sharp finish was crucial to unlocking Jonker's stubborn defensive unit — proving her importance to England.

Dramatic finish

Netherlands supersub Jansen provided a stunning end to the match.

It looked to be heading for a draw until Greenwood's fatal mistake saw the striker clean through on goal and finish emphatically.

It is a massive win for the hosts following their shock opening Nations League defeat to Belgium.

Sarina's homecoming spoiled

For England manager Wiegman, it was her first time on home soil with her current side, having led the Netherlands to Euro 2017 glory.

However, it will not have been the return she would have wanted as her former team handed her a dramatic defeat at the death.

It is just her third loss as the Lionesses' boss but a big blow as her side aimed to build on their momentum from beating Scotland last time out.
