Everton can progress to the fifth round of the FA Cup by knocking out fellow Premier League side Luton, but they may have to grind out the victory at Goodison Park.

Both sides are struggling in the top-flight with the Hatters 18th, a place and a point worse off than Saturday's opponents, but they can forget about their league woes with the cup the focus this weekend.

Team news

Andre Gomes has picked up a calf injury and has been ruled out for the hosts, while boss Sean Dyche has also confirmed Seamus Coleman, Ashley Young and Abdoulaye Doucoure will miss the cup tie. 

Dele Alli is still out having recently undergone surgery following a setback in his recovery from a groin injury.

For Luton, Issa Kabora is on international duty at the African Nations Cup, Marvelous Nakamba is still out with a knee injury and Tom Lockyer is a long-term absentee.

Everton have only scored 11 goals at home in the Premier League so far this season – the joint-fewest in the top-flight.

Luton beat Everton 2-1 at Goodison Park in the league game between the sides in September.

Luton have got as far as the fifth round of the FA Cup before being knocked out twice in the last 11 years – in 2013 and 2022.

Prediction

Both Everton and Luton go into the tie in similar form, with two draws and a win in their last three games. 

Everton's narrow success over Palace in the previous round was the last time they were in action, while Town's win at Bolton in their third-round replay was also their last outing.

Both Dyche and Luton chief Rob Edwards have therefore had plenty of time to prepare for the Goodison Park clash and the hosts should approach the match with confidence considering they have beaten Newcastle and Chelsea and drawn with Aston Villa in front of their own fans since December.

There have also been defeats at home to Fulham, on penalties in the Carabao Cup, and Manchester City in the league for Everton during the winter.

However, with the backing of a passionate crowd, they are likely to take the game to Luton as they look for a place in the next round.

The Hatters did win at Goodison earlier in the season in the league, but they look set to go home disappointed from their trip to Merseyside this time with a low-scoring home win on the cards.
