- Arsenal are second in the standings, six points behind Liverpool
- Recommended bet:
Arsenal to win and both teams to score

Arsenal will be looking to close the gap to Premier League leaders Liverpool when they head to the south coast to take on Brighton on Saturday.

The Gunners ended 2024 with three consecutive victories in all competitions and they kept that form going into 2025, as they came from behind to beat Brentford 3-1 on New Year's Day.

Brighton will be hoping a new year will bring about an upturn in results, with the Seagulls last tasting success back in November when triumphing 2-1 at Bournemouth.

Team news

Brighton's injury list is a lengthy one, with Mats Wieffer, Evan Ferguson, Ferdi Kadioglu, James Milner, Danny Welbeck, Jack Hinshelwood and Diego Gomez all sidelined.

Defensive pair Adam Webster and Pervis Estupinan are both in contention to return after missing the 2-2 draw against Aston Villa.

Arsenal remain without talisman Bukayo Saka, who is not expected back for another two months, while Takehiro Tomiyasu and Ben White are also sidelined.

Kai Havertz missed the win at Brentford because of illness and will be assessed, while Raheem Sterling could be back in contention after his knee injury was confirmed as not as bad as was first feared.

The stats

Brighton have gone seven games without a win, drawing five times and losing twice.

The Seagulls have scored in 17 of their 19 league games, but they have managed to keep just four clean sheets.

Arsenal have scored goals across their last four matches in all competitions, while they have found the back of the net in their last six away fixtures.

The Gunners have won four of their last five road assignments, scoring five times in victories over Sporting Lisbon, West Ham and Crystal Palace.

Brazilian Gabriel Jesus has scored six goals in his last four appearances for the Gunners.

Prediction

Arsenal are doing all they can to try and catch Liverpool at the top of the table and Mikel Arteta's side are on a 12-game unbeaten run in all competitions heading into this clash against Brighton.

The Gunners have been in impressive scoring form, netting nine times across their last three league games and they will feel confident of adding to that tally against a suspect Brighton defence.

Fabian Hurzeler's troops have conceded 28 times in the top-flight – only Aston Villa have let in more of the teams in the top 11 of the standings – and the Seagulls will find it difficult to keep a free-flowing Arsenal at bay.

However, Brighton should be able to get themselves on the scoresheet, something they have achieved in seven of their nine home fixtures in the league.

Arsenal have failed to keep a clean sheet in their last eight away outings in the league and that statistic is unlikely to change against their attacking hosts.
