James Maddison’s first goal since February secured all three points for Leicester in a 2-1 win at Brentford.

The result lifts the Foxes back into the top half of the Premier League table and caps off a great week for Brendan Rodgers’ side.

After coming from behind to win 4-2 at Spartak Moscow on Wednesday, the Northern Irish manager hailed another stellar performance from his men.

He said: "It was a brilliant result for us on the back of a long journey in the week.

"Thomas [Frank] has done a very good job here, it was a real test for us.

"Sometimes our freshness was missing, which was understandable, but we had moments of quality and mental resilience."

Youri Tielemans had given the visitors a 14th-minute lead after he leathered a half-volley from outside the box into the top corner of David Raya’s goal.

Despite reports of a move away from the King Power Stadium, the Belgian delivered a performance that left his boss purring, scoring in consecutive league games for the first time since October 2019.

Rodgers added: "The club will do everything they possibly can to keep Youri.

"My focus is on his development, hopefully we can find a solution.

"You never lose sleep over Youri not being prepared or doing daft things. His goal today was sensational and he is a real brain for us in midfield."

Kasper Schmeichel had to be at his best to deny Ivan Toney an equaliser and the Brentford forward had earlier seen a goal ruled out for offside.

But the Foxes were unable to keep a clean sheet for the 12th successive top-flight away game as the Bees pulled level on the hour mark.

Danish centre-back Mathias Jorgensen rose highest to head home Mathias Jensen’s corner.

Leicester kept looking to reclaim the lead and scored what would prove to be the winner in the 73rd minute.

Patson Daka, fresh from his Europa League four-goal haul midweek, turned provider for Maddison to slot home from inside the box.

The Bees desperately searched for another equaliser and Christian Norgaard had an effort blocked before Toney shot high and wide late in stoppage time.

Did you know?

Leicester's last nine away Premier League wins has seen them score exactly two goals, with seven of those nine ending 2-1, including their last five wins on the road.

Of Jorgensen's four Premier League goals, two have been scored against the Foxes. He has been on the losing side in all four top-flight matches during which he has found the net, the worst record of any player in Premier League history.

Maddison ended a run of 1,043 Premier League minutes without a league goal.

Tielemans has managed more goals from outside the box (four) in all competitions than any other Premier League player in 2021.

Jamie Vardy was substituted at half-time for just the third time in the top flight of English football, after managing just six touches in the opening 45 minutes.
