Draw

Twelve months ago, most Bournemouth fans would have questioned your sanity if you had suggested the 2024 they have just enjoyed, and now they will be hoping to kick off 2025 by beating Everton and maintaining their astonishing upward surge.

A few weeks ago Everton might not have fancied their chances at the Vitality Stadium but a few shows of stubborn resilience will have given them a belief they can frustrate anyone.

Team news

Justin Kluivert sat out Bournemouth's 2-2 draw at Fulham but is likely to return in place of Philip Billing in the three-man line behind Evanilson.

Tyler Adams is expected to shake off a minor niggle though the likes of Marcus Tavernier, Marcos Senesi, Alex Scott and Luis Sinisterra remain sidelined.

Everton boss Sean Dyche still has Seamus Coleman and Dwight McNeil missing and has to decide whether or not to reinstate Dominic Calvert-Lewin after Armando Broja was preferred to lead the line in the 2-0 loss to Nottingham Forest.

Bournemouth are unbeaten in seven matches although three of their last four games have ended in draws.

The Cherries have conceded just seven goals at the Vitality Stadium in the league — only Liverpool and Arsenal have let in fewer goals at their home grounds.

Only Southampton (5) have scored fewer away goals than Everton (6). The Toffees have failed to find the net in three of their last four league games and have drawn three of those last four.

Eleven of Everton's 18 matches so far have produced two goals or less while their games produce a Premier League-low average of 2.17 goals.

Prediction

A fourth game in 13 days will test the shape and stamina of both Bournemouth and Everton and could lead to a potentially tame start to 2025 at the Vitality Stadium.

The Cherries are riding the crest of a wave in seventh place in the table and are unbeaten in seven games, wand they ill do much of the attacking — only Manchester City average more shots per game than Andoni Iraola's supremely confident side.

But Everton's reputation as one of the Premier League's more obdurate groups could well lead to plenty of home frustration.

And given that three of Bournemouth's last four games and three of Everton's last four games have ended all square, the draw looks a big runner.

Certainly Everton can lift themselves against better sides as evidenced by the successive trio of stalemates they secured against Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester City before succumbing to Nottingham Forest on Sunday.

They have now drawn eight of their last 14 games and perhaps lack the in-form firepower to win many games, but they certainly boast the shape and organisation to be trusted to avoid losing many.
