Emma Hayes is excited by how Chelsea's new signings are developing after their 4-0 win at Leicester on Sunday sent them back to the top of the Women's Super League.

January addition Mayra Ramirez scored her second goal for the club during the victory while Catarina Macario netted on her long-awaited debut after joining from Lyon carrying a serious injury last summer.

Nathalie Bjorn also struck for the first time since signing from Everton two months ago.

Hayes, 47, said: "Ramirez was immense. She showed her qualities, held up the ball well, led the line and scored a fantastic goal.

"Good luck going 50-50 with her. They are not fouls, she is just stronger. She looked fresh and dangerous going forward.

"She wanted to be an important to the team in this game and she absolutely did that."

Ahead of her departure to take over the United States national team this summer, Hayes is also excited about what Macario has to offer the Blues going forward.

She said: "She hasn't played football for more than 600 days.

"When she came to Chelsea she wasn't in a fit state to play. I am immensely proud of her and the medical team who have put long hours into her.

"She is a superb footballer and just what we needed coming into the run-in."

Team effort

Interim Brighton manager Mikey Harris was chuffed after his side completed a 7-3 rout of Bristol City.

Elisabeth Terland's brace was added to by Pauline Bremer, Tatiana Pinto, Madison Haley, Vicky Losada and Katie Robinson as the visitors cut loose late in the second half to secure a thumping victory.

And Harris was full of credit for his side's performance on the road.

He said: "To score seven goals away from home is an incredible achievement.

"It was an entertaining game for the fans that came — probably a bit too entertaining I said to the girls.

"We'd like more control in some moments but there were periods of the game where we looked really good.

"You hope those goals will give those players confidence as it's been widely reported that Terland was scoring the majority of our goals.

"It was a real team effort."

Happy to contribute

Emma Koivisto was delighted to score her first goals of the WSL campaign as her brace sealed Liverpool's 4-1 win at Aston Villa.

The defender netted twice in the second period to extend the Reds' 2-1 half-time lead and move them level on points with Manchester United in fourth.

And the 29-year-old was delighted to make a rare contribution in the final third.

She said: "It wasn't my best performance but I'm happy with the goals.

"I feel like I always try to be there and today there were some great crosses. After a cross like that for the first, it's an easy job to put the ball into the net.

"I didn't think it was that pretty today. The pitch wasn't the best but we're pleased overall."
