Wolves to win

Wolves have had a brutal start to the Premier League season, losing seven of their first eight matches before 2-2 draws with Brighton and Crystal Palace in their last two outings.

Bottom-of-the-table Wanderers face a vital fixture against Southampton, who are 19th in the table despite last weekend's 1-0 home win over Everton.

Russell Martin's men, last season's Championship play-off winners, have lost their first five away fixtures on their return to the top flight. so Saturday's clash at Molineux should be a tense occasion for both teams.

Team news

Wolves goalkeeper Sam Johnstone is closing in on a return to action and Hwang Hee-Chan and Bastien Meupiyou will also be assessed. Defender Yerson Mosquera has been ruled out for the season and Boubacar Traore, Sasa Kalajdzic, Enso Gonzalez are injured.

Southampton midfielders Ryan Fraser and Adam Lallana face fitness tests but Ross Stewart, Will Smallbone and Gavin Bazunu remain sidelined.

Southampton ended their wait for a win under Russell Martin last time out

The stats

Both teams have scored in Wolves's last nine Premier League matches. with Wanderers' last two games both ended 2-2.

Five of Wolves's last seven matches in all competitions produced over 3.5 goals, while Southampton are the lowest scorers in this season's Premier League with seven goals in 10 games.

Saints have lost all five of their away matches this term and three of their last four away league fixtures ended in 3-1 defeats.

Prediction

Wolves and Southampton have won a total of seven points from their combined 20 Premier League matches this season, so their meeting at Molineux is a key early fixture in the battle for top-flight survival.

Publicidad

Saints broke their duck in the league last weekend thanks to Adam Armstrong's 85th-minute winner against Everton, who won the shot count 16-9 and hit the woodwork at St Mary's.

This weekend, though, Wolves should end their long wait for a victory against a Southampton side who have lost all five of their away matches since promotion.

Wolves have been hampered by a fiendish fixture list, facing Arsenal, Chelsea, Newcastle, Aston Villa, Liverpool and Manchester City, among others, but they have shown some signs of improvement recently.

City needed a late winner from John Stones at Molineux last month before Wolves scored two late goals in their draw at Brighton and picked up another point at home to Crystal Palace.

They have scored eight goals in their last four matches, one more than Southampton have managed all season, and Gary O'Neil's men should be backed to extend Saints' woeful run on the road.
