Things went from bad to worse for West Ham last Saturday as an early Chris Wood goal was followed by a first-half red card for Edson Alvarez and a second-half humiliation at Nottingham Forest.

The pressure is rapidly growing on Julen Lopetegui and he desperately needs to win over his doubters by earning three points and putting in a strong performance against Everton this Saturday.

Toffees boss Sean Dyche will also be looking for a reaction, though, as his side were beaten 1-0 by Southampton last weekend, suggesting it may be another tough afternoon for Lopetegui when the pair meet at the London Stadium.

Team news

Mohammed Kudus had his original three-match ban for misconduct against Spurs extended by two games on Wednesday, so he remains suspended for this clash.

Edson Alvarez is also suspended after receiving two first-half yellow cards at Nottingham Forest while Niclas Fullkrug remains sidelined with injury.

Abdoulaye Doucoure missed Everton’s loss at Southampton but could feature on Saturday, unlike Tim Iroegbunam, James Garner, Dele Alli, Youssef Chermiti and Armando Broja, who all remain out.

The stats

West Ham have lost three and won two of their five Premier League home games this term.

Julen Lopetegui has had plenty of criticism this season

Everton have lost just one of their last six matches.

Publicidad

The Hammers have won five of the last eight Premier League meetings with the Toffees, as many as they had won in the previous 30

Jrod Bowen has scored three goals and provided two assists in his last six appearances against the Toffees.

Prediction

Embarrassing is arguably the best word to describe West Ham’s toothless showing at the City Ground last week, as they mustered up just 0.1 expected goals and were split open with ease by Forest.

Some will point to Alvarez’s early red card as a reason why they were so poor but, in reality, they were struggling even before the Mexican’s dismissal and the same issues which have plagued them all season were on full show last Saturday.

They are failing to create chances while also being split open regularly. Only the three promoted sides and Wolves have a higher expected goals against than West Ham’s 20.49 in the Premier League this term and they look vulnerable against Everton.

Dyche knows how to organise a defence, so the continued absences of Mohammed Kudus and Niclas Fullkrug will be felt massively by Saturday’s hosts, and there is every chance the Toffees could earn three points in the capital.

Everton have a decent record at the London Stadium, losing just three of their eight visits and winning three times in that run, and given they have lost just one of their last five games, they may have enough to earn an important three points against the faltering Hammers.
